PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ben Turner (ranked 2836 p4p, 414 weight class) and David C. Marvin (ranked 1503 p4p, 233 weight class). Marvin is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Superman Theme. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Ben Turner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, David C. Marvin!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
An inside leg kick from Marvin misses.
Marvin circles away from the clinch attempt.
Turner tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Marvin manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Turner takes a kick to the side of the head.


It looks like Ben Turner has been cut.
Turner fails in his attempt to clinch.
Marvin fails with a takedown attempt.
Turner takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Marvin throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Turner appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Turner is looking to clinch but Marvin is avoiding it.

Marvin lands a head kick that stumbles Turner and the fighters go to the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Marvin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Turner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Turner is trying to control the position from the bottom.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Marvin working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Turner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Marvin is one step ahead there.

Marvin wants to control from the top but Turner keeps moving.
Turner not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Marvin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Turner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Turner seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Turner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Turner is looking to clinch.

Marvin tries to keep at a distance but Turner has taken the fight into the clinch.
Turner fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Marvin blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Marvin tries to pull guard but Turner holds him up against the cage and eventually Marvin drops back down to his feet.

Marvin has Turner pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Marvin pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Turner tumbling to the mat - Marvin dives into Turner's guard.

Marvin is fighting to break Turner's control of his arms but Turner is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Marvin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Turner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Marvin pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Marvin.
Turner doesn't manage to clinch there - Marvin circles away.
Marvin throws a head kick that misses.
Marvin avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Marvin throws a quick inside leg kick.
Marvin throws a quick inside leg kick.
Marvin lands a head kick!
Turner moves in looking to clinch but Marvin pushes him off.
Marvin will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Marvin.
Turner doesn't manage to clinch there - Marvin circles away.
Marvin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David C. Marvin dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ben Turner's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Marvin throws a half hearted mid kick.
Turner is looking to clinch.
An inside leg kick from Marvin misses.
Turner tries to clinch up.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Turner crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Marvin - the referee stops the clock and Turner gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Marvin. Turner manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Turner is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

David C. Marvin seems to be getting the better of the standup.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Marvin connects with a leg kick. Turner looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Marvin does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Turner went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Ben Turner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Turner tries to clinch but Marvin is having none of it.
Marvin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Turner closes the distance and clinches.
Marvin blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Marvin jumps guard but Turner stands there with Marvin around his waist. Marvin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Turner stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Turner throws a punch but it's blocked by Marvin.

Marvin ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Marvin no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Turner is stalling in the full guard.

Turner engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Marvin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Turner gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Turner is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Marvin jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Turner walks away with a smile on his face. Marvin gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Ben Turner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David C. Marvin.

Turner gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Marvin.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Turner's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
David C. Marvin is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Marvin is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

I would just about give that final round to David C. Marvin.
