The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cleveland misses with a takedown attempt - Mendez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Mendez moves into the clinch.
Cleveland has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mendez uses from the top position.
Cleveland is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Mendez is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Cleveland to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Cleveland shrugs it off.

Mendez is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Cleveland has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Mendez has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Cleveland taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Mendez doesn't care though - he's delighted!
