Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luigi Bates (ranked 2481 p4p, 373 weight class) and Dakota Martin (ranked 3724 p4p, 516 weight class). Dakota Martin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dakota Martin! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bates changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. A slapping leg kick lands for Martin.

It looks like Dakota Martin has been cut. Bates uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Martin. Bates appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Martin throws a jab but it's blocked by Bates. Bates half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Bates instigates a clinch. Martin lands a left hand.
Bates wants the takedown. Martin is fighting it off but Bates persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Martin's guard against the cage. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Bates can't control as he wanted to and Martin manages to get the fight back to his half guard. Bates looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Bates is looking for a kimura but Martin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bates to get the leverage. Bates wants to work for an arm triangle but Martin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bates wants to pass to mount but Martin is defending the position. Bates is stalling here. Martin is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Bates seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Martin has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The ground and pound from Martin seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Martin is working Bates over with some ground and pound from side control. Martin lands a nice forearm strike. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Martin throwing strikes but Bates manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Martin is trying to get back to half guard. Bates wants to control but Martin is keeping him busy. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Bates tries for a kimura but Martin is defending well. Bates controlling the position. Bates is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Martin can do to turn this around? Martin throws a series of punches but Bates moves out of range. Martin thows a leg kick but Bates checks it and Bates counters into the clinch. Nicely done. I was talking to Bates's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Martin is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Bates is keeping busy. Bates is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Bates turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Bates manages to end up in side control. Martin wants to control but Bates postures up. Martin gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martin kicks Bates off and gets back to his feet. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bates punishes Martin's body with a nice straight punch. Martin avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Bates jabs at Martin's body. Martin is breathing heavily. Bates lands a nice hook to Martin's body. Martin takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Martin walks into a left hand. Bates lands a body shot.

Bates is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Martin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. A combination from Martin does no damage. Bates tries to counter with a takedown but Martin is quick to defend against it. Martin gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Bates. Bates takes a swing at Martin's ribcage but misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin throws a right and a left that Bates avoids nicely. Bates shoots in looking for a takedown but Martin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bates's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Martin misses with a right hand and Martin takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Martin misses with the combination.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Martin loads up on a big right hand but Bates slips the punch. As Martin tries to get set, Bates tries to push him back and clinch up but Martin manages to avoid the attempt. Good standup being displayed there by Martin as he connects with a hook. Martin throws a right and a left that both miss. Martin takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Martin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Martin throws a hook but Bates avoids it easily. Martin throws a leg kick so Bates counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Bates wants to control from the top but Martin keeps moving. Bates passes into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bates seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Martin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Martin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bates is working away from the top position though. Bates works his way into side control. Dakota Martin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Bates tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bates has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Bates controlling from side mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Bates is looking to take a break and control but Martin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Martin is looking to regain half guard here but Bates keeps moving and retains side control. Bates swings around for an armbar but Martin sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bates's guard. Bates manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Martin manages to get himself to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight! Dakota Martin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Bates has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
