PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tatsujiri Matsui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Enver Koskinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tatsujiri Matsui!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Enver Koskinen!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Koskinen looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Matsui looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Matsui is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Koskinen gets to his feet - Matsui follows without any prompting.
Koskinen misses the shot to the body.
Matsui has his takedown stuffed

and Koskinen counters with a single leg into guard. Matsui didn't expect that.

Koskinen is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Koskinen gets to his feet. Matsui looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Koskinen feints and as Matsui raises his hands in defense, Koskinen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Koskinen sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Matsui's guard.
Matsui won't allow Koskinen to pass to mount.
It looks like Koskinen is going to stand back up.
Koskinen is thwarting Matsui's attempts to control the position.
Matsui is trying to get back to full guard.
Matsui is working hard here to advance position.
Koskinen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Matsui keeps working.

Koskinen keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Matsui moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Koskinen looks gassed!
Matsui keeping moving, preventing Koskinen from controlling successfully.

Koskinen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Matsui is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Koskinen gets to his feet. Matsui looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Koskinen scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Matsui doesn't seem bothered though.
Matsui tries to close the distance and clinch but Koskinen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Matsui tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Koskinen counters with a thumping low kick.
Matsui chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Koskinen can pounce on him.
Koskinen throws a head kick but Matsui moves out of range.
Matsui really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Koskinen clinches up with Matsui and pushes him back against the cage.

Koskinen manages to pull guard.
Koskinen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Matsui is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Enver Koskinen dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Koskinen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Koskinen is looking to take a break and control but Matsui is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Matsui's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Koskinen might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Matsui kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Koskinen tries to advance to mount but Matsui denies him.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Koskinen feints and as Matsui raises his hands in defense, Koskinen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Koskinen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koskinen stopping the sweep attempt from Matsui.

Koskinen decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Koskinen looks to land a combination but Matsui avoids it well.

Matsui closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Koskinen is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Koskinen tries to score a body lock takedown but Matsui shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Tatsujiri Matsui has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Enver Koskinen.
Matsui tries to pull guard but Koskinen holds him up against the cage and eventually Matsui drops back down to his feet.

Koskinen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Matsui uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Matsui tries to free his leg and advance position but Koskinen is retaining full guard.
Koskinen trying to keep a closed guard but Matsui is proving a slippery customer.
Matsui wants to control from the top but Koskinen keeps moving.
Koskinen wants to control the position but Matsui says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Koskinen is not content to let Matsui control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Koskinen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Matsui is not content to let Koskinen control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Enver Koskinen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Matsui has his takedown stuffed

and Koskinen counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Koskinen.

Koskinen pulls guard successfully.
Koskinen wants to improve his position but instead Matsui has moved into half guard.
Matsui wants to stand up but Koskinen has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Enver Koskinen has got the better of the ground game so far.
Matsui missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Koskinen is pressing down on Matsui's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Koskinen pulls Matsui in close to prevent any damage.
Koskinen wants to sweep but no luck.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Matsui tries to free his leg and advance position but Koskinen is retaining full guard.
Koskinen pulls Matsui in close to prevent any damage.
Koskinen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Matsui is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Koskinen has his hands on Matsui's head, controlling the position.
Matsui stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Koskinen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Matsui gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Matsui looking for a sweep. Not yet Matsui, not yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Koskinen trying to control the position from guard on top but Matsui is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Koskinen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Koskinen has gone for a leg lock! Matsui slips out almost immediately though and dives into Koskinen's guard.

Matsui is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Koskinen has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Matsui is looking to defend but Koskinen has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Matsui! Koskinen pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Matsui taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:01 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Enver Koskinen!
