PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Filiberto Pruitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Filiberto Pruitt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe James!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pruitt shoots in but James avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Pruitt lands a two punch combo.
James throws a right and a left that both miss.

James closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Pruitt to the mat! Pruitt manages to get full guard.
Pruitt is looking to stand back up but James counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Pruitt.

James prevents Pruitt from improving his position.
James stops Pruitt from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pruitt looking for submissions off his back.

That's one minute gone in the round.

James stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Pruitt throws a body kick that misses.

James shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. James showed some decent athleticism there.

Pruitt has one foot on James's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
James misses with a right hand
and Pruitt counters with a one-two to the body.

James feints and as Pruitt raises his hands in defense, James changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Pruitt wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and James manages to pass to side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

James thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pruitt's head.
James missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
James has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
James tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

James get's back to his feet.

James closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - James lands in his opponent's guard.

Pruitt has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. James is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

James escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
James tries a low kick but Pruitt avoids it.
Pruitt tries to counter by moving into the clinch but James manages to circle out of the way.

James bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

James is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pruitt is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
James just content to control the position.
Let's hope that James has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Pruitt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Pruitt tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
James throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Pruitt wants to get back to his feet but James is dominant here and he's now got Pruitt's back!
Pruitt is trying to get back to his feet but James has full control of the position and if anything, Pruitt has just worked his way into a worse spot.
James biding his time, looking for the opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Joe James will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!



James drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Pruitt bucks up and tries to throw James off but instead James has got his back!

Pruitt is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.
A head kick misses from James.
James tries to clinch there but Pruitt circles away.
Pruitt fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.

James closes the distance and pushes Pruitt back into the cage.

James tightens his grip and picks Pruitt up, before dumping him to the ground. Pruitt manages to land in guard.
James won't allow Pruitt to sweep him here.

James drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and James jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Pruitt looking for a sweep. Not yet Pruitt, not yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James controlling from the top position.
James throws a big right hand that misses.
James stands and throws Pruitt's legs to the side, diving into side control.
James prevents Pruitt from escaping the position.
James tries to score with some ground and pound. Pruitt controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James trying to control the action but Pruitt is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Pruitt.
James trying to control but Pruitt is having none of it.
James takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
James thowing shots but they're missing.

James looking to secure an arm triangle but Pruitt defends it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pruitt manages to regain half guard. Good work.
James is trying to control the action in half guard but Pruitt is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
James not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
James is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
James misses with a head shot. Pruitt uses the momentum to regain guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pruitt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

James drives through with a takedown into Pruitt's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

James is looking to work some ground and pound but Pruitt has wrist control.
James advances to half guard.

Pruitt looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
James passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Pruitt!
James punching from mount but Pruitt doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Pruitt wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by James.
Pruitt is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.

James goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Pruitt is on top in guard.

James has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Pruitt is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

James lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James misses with a head shot. Pruitt uses the momentum to regain guard.
Pruitt preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pruitt isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. James stacks Pruitt on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by James!

James is trying to get an arm triangle but Pruitt is defending well.

Pruitt throws James to one side and escapes!

Pruitt has managed to clinch.
Pruitt working aggressively here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pruitt is trying to break the clinch but James is controlling him.

James breaks the clinch.
James wants to clinch up but Pruitt keeps it at a distance.

James gets the takedown into side control.
Joe James has got the better of the ground game so far.
James is looking to take a break and control but Pruitt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pruitt is looking for a sweep.
Pruitt is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, James asserts his dominance and retains side control.
James happy to just control the position for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Joe James.
I've got James winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
