Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rashad Soto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mordacai Lapu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rashad Soto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mordacai Lapu!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lapu moves into the clinch.

Soto has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Lapu clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Lapu is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.
Lapu shoots and misses

and Soto holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Soto has Lapu pushed against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Soto seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Lapu manages to break the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Soto fails with an attempt to clinch.
Lapu fails with a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lapu shoots in looking for a takedown but Soto manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lapu's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Soto is looking to counter with head kicks.
Rashad Soto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mordacai Lapu.
Lapu looks for a takedown but Soto sprawls well.
Soto feinted with a counter takedown.
Lapu throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Lapu darts in looking for a takedown but Soto gets double underhooks and turns Lapu into the cage.
Soto is looking to counter the offense by Lapu and move into the clinch.
Soto takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Lapu closes the distance and clinches.
Soto is trying to stall.
Lapu can't get the takedown.

Soto is working for takedown but Lapu is calmly controlling the position for now.

Lapu breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lapu misses with a wild combination.

Lapu breaks from the clinch.
Soto throws a body kick that misses.
Soto defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lapu.

Soto moves in looking to clinch but Lapu pushes him off.
That kick from Soto tenderised Lapu's leg. Lapu is trying to keep his angry face on.
Lapu shoots in for a double leg but Soto sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lapu looks winded!

Lapu instigates a clinch.
Soto is trying to push Lapu away but Lapu has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Lapu blocks a body shot from Soto.
Soto is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lapu pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Lapu goes for a takedown in the clinch but Soto prevents it.

Lapu pulls guard effortlessly.
Soto keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Lapu's head.

Soto postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lapu is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Soto, into his guard.

Lapu throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Soto looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lapu is one step ahead there.
Lapu looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mordacai Lapu dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Lapu gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Soto tries to pull guard but Lapu forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Lapu wants to take the fight to the mat but Soto manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Lapu drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Lapu breaks from the clinch.
Soto could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Soto tries to clinch but Lapu moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lapu moves into the clinch.
Lapu is pressed up against the cage. Soto has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lapu down to the mat. Lapu avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Soto moves into range and clinches up with Lapu.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Soto lands with a left to the head.
Lapu drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Soto gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Rashad Soto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mordacai Lapu.
Lapu tries to pull guard but Soto forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Soto wants to stall.
Nice body punch from Soto.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Soto.
Lapu has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Soto stops a takedown attempt from Lapu.
Soto effectively controlling the action here.
Soto jumps guard but Lapu stands there with Soto around his waist. Soto gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Soto presses Lapu against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Lapu drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Soto gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Soto wants to break free but Lapu has control.
Lapu stops a takedown attempt from Soto.
Lapu lands with a short shot to the head.
Lapu has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Soto after a bit of a struggle.
Soto is trying to break the clinch but Lapu is controlling him.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Soto creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Soto is looking to control Lapu's arms but Lapu gets an underhook and turns him. Now Soto has his back to the cage.
Lapu unloads a knee to the mid-section. Soto lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lapu breaks from the clinch.
Lapu fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Lapu is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lapu closes the distance and clinches.
Lapu blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Lapu lands an uppercut.
Soto is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Lapu is keeping busy.
Lapu on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Lapu is looking to take this one to the mat.

Lapu successfully pulls guard.
Soto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Lapu has Soto pulled in close to control his posture.
Lapu keeping moving, preventing Soto from controlling successfully.
Soto is working Lapu over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Soto thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Soto is fighting to break Lapu's control of his arms but Lapu is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Soto throwing strikes but missing.
Lapu wants to stand up but Soto is controlling him.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Lapu is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Soto throwing strikes but missing.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Soto defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lapu.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Mordacai Lapu will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Soto tries to close the distance and clinch but Lapu swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lapu flicks out a counter leg kick but Soto steps away.
Soto shoots and misses
and Lapu counters with a right hand to the body.

Lapu clinches up against the cage.
Lapu lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Soto tries to circle away but Lapu has him pinned against the cage.
Lapu is trying to drag Soto to the mat but Soto just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Soto tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lapu is defending well against a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rashad Soto. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lapu is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Mordacai Lapu seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

A frustrated look appears on Soto's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Soto is trying to push Lapu away but Lapu has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Lapu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Lapu breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Soto wants a takedown but no success here.
Lapu has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Soto avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Soto tries to circle away but Lapu has him pinned against the cage.

Lapu breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Good exchange - Lapu coming out on top.

Soto defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lapu.

Lapu has taken the fight to the clinch.
Soto controlling the action here for a moment.
Soto tries to circle away but Lapu has him pinned against the cage.
Soto goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Soto stops a takedown attempt from Lapu.

Lapu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lapu fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Lapu gets a clinch.
Lapu tries to pull guard but Soto forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Lapu jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Soto walks away with a smile on his face. Lapu gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Soto darts in and clinches Lapu up against the cage.
Soto misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Soto looking to stall.
Soto is pushing Lapu up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Soto is trying to break the clinch but Lapu has him pressed against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Soto tries to pull guard but Lapu won't allow it.

Lapu breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lapu has his takedown stuffed

and Soto counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Soto.
Soto tries to circle away but Lapu has him pinned against the cage.
Soto tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lapu smiles and moves away.
Lapu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
As Lapu tries to get set, Soto tries to push him back and clinch up but Lapu manages to avoid the attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nice takedown defense from Soto. No joy for Lapu on that attempt.
Rashad Soto has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mordacai Lapu is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Soto tries to clinch up but Lapu circles away and keeps his distance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mordacai Lapu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lapu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
