PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cronus Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom McReary (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes into the arena with Never Thought About Going Back blaring out of the sound system. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Cronus Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom McReary!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

McReary closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Jones is looking to escape.
Jones wants to get back to full guard.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.
Jones is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McReary controlling the pace.
Jones lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones is looking to clinch.

Jones gets caught flat footed, as McReary shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jones is on top in guard.
McReary throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

McReary is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.

McReary is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.
Jones wants to stand but McReary is controlling his posture from full guard.

Jones wants to clinch up but McReary keeps it at a distance.

McReary shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

McReary looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Jones gets full guard.

Jones has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes McReary off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
McReary keeps the fight on the outside.
McReary misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cronus Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

McReary shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. McReary showed some decent athleticism there.

Jones manages to escape and get back to his feet!
McReary lands a jab-cross combination.
Jones throws a head kick that misses.
McReary throws a series of punches but Jones moves out of range.
Jones wants to clinch.
McReary fails to land the takedown.

McReary can't break the clinch.

Jones breaks from the clinch.
McReary closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Jones moves in looking to clinch but McReary pushes him off.
Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
McReary stalks Jones and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jones's face. Jones staggers backwards, shaken.

McReary drives through with a takedown into guard.
McReary tries to stand but Jones is controlling from the bottom.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McReary can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McReary's guard.
Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Jones won't allow McReary to sweep him here.

Jones pushing down on McReary's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones passes to side control.
McReary throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
McReary wants to control but Jones postures up.

Jones has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Jones tries to clinch up but McReary circles away and keeps his distance.

Jones works over McReary's head and body with a nice combination.

McReary shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Jones wants to sweep here but McReary controlling him for the moment.
McReary is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jones is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom McReary dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


McReary lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by McReary.

Jones wants to clinch.
Jones misses with a combination
and McReary counters with a three punch combo that has Jones backing up. Jones nods at McReary to acknowledge the strikes.

Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McReary, pushing him back against the cage.
McReary tries for a takedown but Jones manages to get underhooks.
Jones tries to land a knee to the head but McReary blocks with his arms.
McReary blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Jones pulls McReary into guard.
McReary trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jones is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst McReary is controlling him.
Jones throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
McReary trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jones had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. McReary is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jones Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take McReary's back instead.

McReary manages to escape to his feet.
McReary fails with a takedown attempt.
Jones darts in trying to clinch
and McReary counters with a three punch combo that has Jones backing up. Jones nods at McReary to acknowledge the strikes.
Jones closes the distance but McReary moves to the side
and McReary counters with a right hand to the body.
McReary scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Jones tries to clinch but fails miserably
and McReary counters with a solid body kick.
A nice combination there by McReary.
Jones stuffs the takedown attempt from McReary. McReary gets slowly back to his feet.
Cronus Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom McReary.

and McReary counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by McReary.

McReary decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Jones throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but McReary blocks it with crossed arms.
Jones misses with a knee to the head.

Jones tries to score a body lock takedown but McReary shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

McReary lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

and McReary counters with a takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McReary wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.
McReary is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
McReary lands a few punches from side control.

McReary thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Jones manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
McReary lands with a punch from half guard.
Jones is in trouble now - McReary has advanced to mount!

McReary can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jones is looking to escape.
McReary looking to control and managing it successfully.

McReary is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Jones can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Jones bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

McReary lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Jones manages to break the clinch.

McReary drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jones looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but McReary is defending well. Jones quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! McReary has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Jones celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
