Smith comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Long Black Train kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Elijah Carter has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elijah Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, MJ Smith!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Columbo Gatti and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Smith falls off balance throwing a combination

and Carter counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Carter.
Carter fails to pull guard.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Carter looks to score with a jab to the body but Smith is just out of range.
Smith cracks a nice hook into Carter's ribs.

Smith closes the distance and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith is trying to trip Carter. He has hold of a leg but Carter is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Smith persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Smith lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Smith wants to control from the top but Carter keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Carter is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Smith is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Carter tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Smith seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Smith scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Carter pulls Smith in close to prevent any damage.
Smith slips nicely into half guard.
Smith looks to score some points with some ground and pound.


Carter is rocked!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Oh Carter is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Carter taking some punishment here, with Smith in his half guard.
Smith perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Smith is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Carter is hurt! He's hurt bad - Smith fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Carter from any more punishment! Congratulations to Smith! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). MJ Smith!
A relieved looking MJ Smith thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
