PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Patrik Dwan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Drago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dwan's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Lux Aeterna. Ivan Drago is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ivan Drago!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Drago throws a leg kick that misses.
Drago feints and then cracks Dwan's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Dwan down.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Drago.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dwan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Drago on the ground.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Patrik Dwan just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Drago connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Dwan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Drago bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Dwan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Drago decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Drago thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Dwan if he has to take too many more of those.
Ivan Drago seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Drago manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Drago is working for a guillotine from mount but Dwan frees his head quite easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dwan is desperately trying to improve his position but Drago has a good base and remains in mount.
Dwan wants to control but Drago is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Dwan takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Drago is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Drago is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dwan's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dwan's back!

Despite being in a bad position, Dwan is controlling the hands, preventing any submission attempts.

Dwan turns into Drago and is now in his guard.
Dwan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Patrik Dwan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Dwan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dwan lands a nice forearm strike.

Dwan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Drago has escaped the position, nice work there.
Drago is looking to reverse the position.

Dwan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Drago sprawls well initially but Dwan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Dwan is looking to work some ground and pound but Drago has wrist control.

Drago is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Dwan is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Drago has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Dwan is looking to defend but Drago has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Dwan! Drago pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Dwan taps out and this one is all over!
