Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcel Merrill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damien Reid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damien Reid has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Marcel Merrill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Damien Reid!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Daniel Bishop and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reid fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Merrill to the ground. Reid is now in Merrill's guard.
Merrill is pulling down on Reid's head. It's preventing any offense from Reid, at least for the moment.
Reid not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Merrill throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Reid pushes down on Merrill's leg and manages to get into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Merrill looks like he's trying to stand up.
Reid is taking a breather. Merrill says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Merrill trying to hold on to Reid's head to control him but Reid postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Reid postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Merrill to stand up.

Reid has taken the fight to the clinch.
Merrill is trying to pull guard but Reid turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Merrill tries to pull guard but Reid holds him up against the cage and eventually Merrill drops back down to his feet.

Reid has clasped his hands together around Merrill's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Reid working the body and head with strikes.

Reid tries for a kimura but Merrill is defending well.
Merrill is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Reid asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here as Reid stalls from top position.
Reid working the ground and pound.
Reid is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Reid cracks Merrill with an elbow. That is naaassty.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Reid has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Reid fails in his attempt to clinch.
Merrill is looking for a counter combo.
Merrill shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcel Merrill. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Reid throws a combination that misses
and Merrill counters with a nice body shot.

Reid fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Merrill to the ground. Reid is now in Merrill's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Merrill manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Reid tightens his grip and picks Merrill up, before dumping him to the ground. Merrill manages to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Reid sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Merrill's guard.
Reid takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Reid is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Merrill sees it coming and defends easily.
Merrill wants to control but Reid is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reid looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Merrill with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Reid stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Reid tries to land a body kick
and Merrill counters with a two punch combo.

Reid gets a double leg takedown into Merrill's guard.
Merrill looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Merrill is working an open guard so Reid takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Reid gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Reid dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Reid closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Reid lands in his opponent's guard.


Merrill is rocked!
Reid lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Oh Merrill is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Reid arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Merrill's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Damien Reid!
