Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Avery Nijholt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alvaro Sakuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Avery Nijholt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alvaro Sakuraba! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Eddie Farnsworth and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sakuraba plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Sakuraba scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Sakuraba has taken the fight to the clinch.
Nijholt blocks an elbow strike from Sakuraba.
Sakuraba gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sakuraba stands and steps away. Nijholt gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Nijholt closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Nijholt tries to land knees in the clinch but Sakuraba avoids the damage to the body. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The referee calls for Nijholt to work.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Nijholt breaks the clinch.
Sakuraba rushes Nijholt and presses him up against the cage. A head punch on the inside from Sakuraba fails to land. Sakuraba trying to land knees to the body.
Nijholt pushes off an throws an elbow but Sakuraba leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Sakuraba jumps guard but Nijholt stands there with Sakuraba around his waist. Sakuraba gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Avery Nijholt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alvaro Sakuraba. Nijholt lands an elbow inside that Sakuraba shrugs off. Sakuraba wants to get back to striking at distance but Nijholt won't allow it.

Sakuraba has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Nijholt is landing a low percentage of strikes. Sakuraba gets tackled into the cage by Nijholt. Nijholt maintains the clinch. Nijholt is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Sakuraba is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Nijholt lands an elbow that stopped Sakuraba in his tracks for a moment.
It looks like Alvaro Sakuraba has been cut. Sakuraba looks winded! Nijholt lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Sakuraba is a painfully thin specimen of a man. Sakuraba lands a jab to the nose. Sakuraba closes the distance and clinches. Nijholt lands an elbow that stopped Sakuraba in his tracks for a moment. Nijholt doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Nijholt just misses with a elbow thrown towards Sakuraba's brow. Sakuraba fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Sakuraba is still on wobbly legs! Can Nijholt finish him? Sakuraba takes an elbow to the forehead. Nijholt lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Nijholt lands an elbow that stopped Sakuraba in his tracks for a moment. Clinched against the cage, Nijholt lands a big elbow that drops Sakuraba! The ref dives in to save him from more shots - Sakuraba is complaining that he's OK but he was done.
