PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerome Bland (ranked 1340 p4p, 40 weight class) and Chip Chocolate (ranked 1764 p4p, 58 weight class). Chocolate has chosen Cookie Dance as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jerome Bland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chip Chocolate!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Alyssa Summers and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chocolate takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Bland throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Chocolate keeps the fight on the outside.

Chocolate closes the distance and clinches.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Chocolate has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Bland cracks Chocolate with a nice body shot.
Bland misses with a hook to the ribs.
Chocolate has Bland pressed against the cage.
Bland misses with a short punch on the inside.
Bland lands a nice shot to the body.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chocolate will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Bland up against the cage.

Bland uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Chocolate.

Chocolate changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bland tries to avoid it but Chocolate manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bland to the ground. Bland escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bland drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Bland keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.


It looks like Chip Chocolate has been cut.
Bland throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Chocolate sees it coming and avoids it easily.
No joy there for Bland, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And Chocolate tries to counter it with a takedown but Bland pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Chocolate throws the left hand but Bland avoids the punch easily.
Chocolate uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bland.
Chocolate misses with a hook.
Jerome Bland is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

I was talking to Bland's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Chocolate tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Bland avoids it.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Chocolate can't get the takedown.
Jerome Bland has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chip Chocolate.

Bland gets through Chocolate's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Bland swings wildly with an uppercut but Chocolate uses good head movement to avoid it.

Chocolate is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Chocolate takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Chocolate tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bland sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chocolate somewhat.

Bland takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Chip Chocolate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Chocolate pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Bland back to the cage. Chocolate follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Bland is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chocolate can do to turn this around?

Bland pushes Chocolate off and gets back to his feet.
Bland looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Bland connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Bland lands a nice shot to the body.
Chocolate misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jerome Bland has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chip Chocolate.
Bland lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


The cut above Chip Chocolate's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Bland throws a body punch but Chocolate moves out of range.
Chocolate drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Bland defends it well.
Bland staying out of range there.
Chocolate glances at the clock... BAM! Bland nails him with a big right hand! A momentary lapse in concentration sends Chocolate crashing to the mat! The referee steps in and this one is over! Damn, Chocolate is out of it, he thinks the ref is his opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jerome Bland!

Chip Chocolate was interviewed post fight and said 'I'm gonna take this loss with a grain of salt, or a grain of sugar, and put it in a cookie, and eat it.'.
