Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Josiah Carrillo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steve Crush! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Crush buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Steve Crush seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Carrillo slips a jab and a cross from Crush.
As Crush tries to get set, Carrillo tries to push him back and clinch up but Crush manages to avoid the attempt. Carrillo is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Crush throws a head kick but Carrillo moves out of range.
Crush has taken the fight to the clinch.
Carrillo pulls guard. Crush must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Crush wants to pass the guard but Carrillo is keeping the position. Crush prevents Carrillo from getting back to his feet. Crush landing with the ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Crush accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carrillo wants to sweep here but Crush controlling him for the moment. Carrillo is adopting a defensive guard. Crush postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carrillo keeping full guard, as Crush tries to pass. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Crush accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Crush throws a sloppy strike and Carrillo has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Crush is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Carrillo!
