Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Figueredo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alejandro Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alejandro Ruiz acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Carlos Figueredo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Alejandro Ruiz !
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Daniel Franklin and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiz fails with a takedown attempt.
Ruiz misses with a head kick.
Figueredo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Figueredo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ruiz avoids it really well and circles away.
Ruiz wants to slow Figueredo down by chopping away at his legs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Figueredo stuffs the takedown.

Ruiz gets tackled into the cage by Figueredo. Figueredo maintains the clinch.

Ruiz jumps guard and drags Figueredo to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Ruiz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Figueredo is controlling him.

Figueredo postures up in Ruiz 's guard and throws a big left but Ruiz blocks it.

Figueredo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ruiz dives on top into guard.

Ruiz is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

My spies in 10th Planet Islanders inform me that Ruiz has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Figueredo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ruiz defends well.

A looping hook to the body misses from Ruiz . Figueredo does a little dance to reset his feet.

Figueredo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ruiz 's waist but Ruiz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Figueredo off to one side.

Ruiz moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Figueredo.
Ruiz is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Figueredo will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Ruiz wants to control but Figueredo is keeping him busy.
Figueredo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ruiz in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Ruiz tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Figueredo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Figueredo showed some decent athleticism there.
Well, if Figueredo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The fighters are battling for position here. Ruiz manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Figueredo wants to stand and escape but instead Ruiz has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Ruiz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Figueredo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ruiz is stalling here. Figueredo is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Ruiz seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Figueredo has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Ruiz is controlling Figueredo's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Ruiz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Figueredo is working away from the top position though.
Ruiz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Figueredo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ruiz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ruiz closes the distance and clinches up with Figueredo, looking for a takedown. Ruiz pushes Figueredo against the cage but Figueredo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Figueredo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ruiz as he avoids it easily.

That was a close second round but I would say that Carlos Figueredo will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Ruiz has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Figueredo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
