PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Uriah Barnes (ranked 4152 p4p, 392 weight class) and Lucas Basurto (ranked 3693 p4p, 356 weight class). Barnes kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Bring Me The Horizon - Can You Feel My Heart. Basurto is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Tapout - Birdman. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Lucas Basurto!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Chris Edwards and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnes moves in looking to clinch but Basurto pushes him off.
Barnes ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Basurto moves away.
Basurto looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Basurto avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Basurto is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Barnes with a body shot.
Basurto changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barnes tries to avoid it but Basurto manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barnes to the ground. Barnes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Barnes catches Basurto with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Basurto takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Uriah Barnes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Barnes counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Basurto uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Barnes.

Basurto swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Barnes is pushing Basurto's head away, looking to escape. Basurto manages to hold on to the position though.
Basurto thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Barnes wants to get back to his feet.
Barnes trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Basurto is trying to get an arm triangle but Barnes is defending well.
Basurto is working Barnes over with some ground and pound from side control.

Barnes sneaks out the side door and pushes Basurto away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Barnes throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Basurto! But no joy.

and Basurto counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Barnes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Basurto is controlling him.
Basurto tries to free his leg and advance position but Barnes is retaining full guard.
Basurto drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Basurto jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Basurto wants to control from the top but Barnes keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Basurto accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Uriah Barnes dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Basurto misses with a takedown attempt - Barnes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Basurto counters with a three punch combo that has Barnes backing up. Barnes nods at Basurto to acknowledge the strikes.
Barnes looks to land a combination. Basurto sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Barnes scores with a jab.
Barnes throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
As Barnes backs off Basurto throws a huge counter combo but Barnes manages to avoid it all.
Barnes pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Basurto looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Nice defenses there by Basurto.

Basurto jumps guard but Barnes stands there with Basurto around his waist. Basurto gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Barnes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Barnes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Barnes scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Basurto looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Basurto is trying for a kimura here. Barnes looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Basurto wins by kimura!
