PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Berger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hugh Janis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Janis is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Fucked up by XXXTentacions. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Berger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hugh Janis!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Berger throws a leg kick but Janis sees it coming and moves out of range.

Janis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Janis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Janis trying to control but Berger is working from the bottom.
Berger really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Berger lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Janis is wriggling around but Berger manages to pass to half guard.
Janis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Berger. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Berger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Berger is nestled in close to Janis, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Berger looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Janis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Janis is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Berger scores with a couple of nice shots.
Berger landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Berger is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Janis sees it coming and defends easily.

Berger seems to be working for a kimura but Janis defends the submission attempt.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Berger connects with a nice short shot to Janis's temple.

Berger is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Berger is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Berger seems to be looking for submissions.
Janis tries to kick Berger off but Berger keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Berger working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Janis is trying to maintain the position but Berger is very close to passing his half guard.
Berger is nestled in close to Janis, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Janis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Berger did well to prevent Janis getting side control.

Berger manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Janis keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Janis just misses with a elbow thrown towards Berger's brow.
Janis keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Berger's efforts to push away.

Berger ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Berger no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Janis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Berger gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Janis has momentary wrist control but Berger slips an elbow through the middle.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Berger throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Janis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Janis wants to sweep here but Berger controlling him for the moment.
Berger throws a big right hand that misses.
Janis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Janis looking for a sweep. Not yet Janis, not yet.
Janis is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Janis is looking to clinch but Berger is avoiding it.
Janis takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Janis tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Berger counters with a two punch combo.

Janis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Berger manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Berger lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Janis is looking to clinch but Berger is avoiding it.
Berger tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Janis is able to avoid easily.

Janis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Berger looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Berger sneaks out the side door and pushes Janis away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Janis wants to control position but Berger is using a can opener to pass guard... He's turned it into a full on guillotine from mount now! Big trouble for Janis here! He's turning a lovely shade of purple and yep! He's tapping out! I would say world class Jiu Jitsu but is it really? It was nice but let's not get silly about it.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Mark Berger!
