PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Oliver Queen (ranked 3302 p4p, 168 weight class) and Yas Uru (ranked 2638 p4p, 138 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Oliver Queen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yas Uru!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paulsen Ambrosius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Queen looks to score with a jab to the body but Uru is just out of range.

Queen gets a clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Queen.
Uru working hard to break the clinch.
Uru wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Queen has him pressed against the cage.

Uru breaks from the clinch.
Queen bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Uru takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Queen works over Uru's head and body with a nice combination.
Queen attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Queen clinches up with Uru and pushes him back against the cage.

Uru manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Queen keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Queen throws a push kick but Uru slaps the foot to one side.
Queen closes the distance looking to clinch
and Uru counters with a stiff right hand.
Uru keeps Queen at a distance using the push kick.
Good exchange - Queen coming out on top.

and Uru counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Queen throws a shot from downtown. Uru moves away and avoids it.
Uru throws out a counter right but Queen avoids it with no problem.
Queen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Uru as he avoids it easily.
A little jabbing left from Uru on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Queen lands with a kick to the temple. Uru shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

This has been an exciting period of action!
Queen misses with a combination
and Uru counters with a nice low kick that buckles Queen's knee momentarily.
Yas Uru is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Queen fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oliver Queen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Uru throws a leg kick which misses Queen's front leg but catches the back leg as Queen tries to avoid it.
Uru checks a leg kick nicely.
Uru steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Queen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Uru follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Uru takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Uru throws a push kick but Queen slaps the foot to one side.
Queen closes the distance looking to clinch
and Uru counters with a stiff right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Queen throws a half hearted mid kick.

Queen drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Queen wants to control from the top but Uru keeps moving.
Uru is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Queen is controlling him.
Queen passes Uru's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Uru wants to stand back up but Queen manages to pass into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Uru dodges the ground and pound from Queen.
Queen fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Uru is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Queen wants to control but Uru is keeping him busy.
Queen is really struggling to control Uru but he's trying to hold on to the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Oliver Queen will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Uru walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Uru gets caught napping as Queen dives in and scores a takedown. Uru manages to retain guard.

Queen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Queen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Uru fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Queen.

Queen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Uru was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Queen moves in looking to clinch but Uru pushes him off.
Yas Uru seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Uru looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Uru replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Queen blocks it well.
Oliver Queen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Queen has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Uru after a bit of a struggle.

Queen is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Uru tries to circle away but Queen has him pinned against the cage.

Uru escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nice takedown defense from Uru. No joy for Queen on that attempt.

Queen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Uru, pushing him back against the cage.

Uru wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Queen has him pressed against the cage.
Uru wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Uru breaks from the clinch.
Uru keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Queen drives through with a takedown into Uru's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Uru keeping moving, preventing Queen from controlling successfully.

Uru is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Uru scores with a one two! Queen had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Uru ducks under a wild hook from Queen.
Queen shoots for a takedown but Uru saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Queen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Uru follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Queen throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Uru circles away from the clinch attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Yas Uru will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Queen scores with the left hand. Uru knows he should have avoided that one.
Oliver Queen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Queen walks forward, straight into a front kick from Uru.

and Uru cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Queen throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Uru.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Queen tries to stall but Uru uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Uru blocks an uppercut.
Queen swings wildly with an uppercut but Uru uses good head movement to avoid it.
Queen fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Queen swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Queen will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Uru up against the cage.
Queen is looking to control Uru's arms but Uru gets an underhook and turns him. Now Queen has his back to the cage.
Uru wants to get back to striking at distance but Queen won't allow it.
Queen is pushing Uru up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Queen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No joy there for Uru, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Queen misses with an uppercut
and Uru counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Queen uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Uru.

Queen clinches with his opponent.
Queen lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Uru backwards.
Queen lands a left hand.
Queen swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Uru is trying to break free.
Queen is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Uru pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Queen moves out of range of the strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Oliver Queen.
I think Queen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
