PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Desmond Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimi Kuala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Desmond Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimi Kuala!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wallace lands a high kick!

Wallace has managed to clinch.
Kuala drops down looking for an ankle pick but Wallace pulls his leg out and moves away.
Wallace tries to close the distance and clinch but Kuala swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wallace throws a sloppy body shot
and Kuala cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Wallace feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kuala is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Wallace dives into side control.

Wallace misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Wallace knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kuala on the ground.
Kuala stuck in half guard on the bottom here.
Kuala looking for a sweep but Wallace has passed into full mount! Oh no!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kuala is looking to improve his position but Wallace isn't that keen on the idea.

Wallace connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Kuala is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Kuala sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Wallace will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kuala is looking to control Wallace's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kuala avoid being mounted?
Wallace content to control rather than advance.
Kuala tries to roll over but Wallace keeps him under control.

Wallace is thwarting Kuala's attempts to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wallace trying to control the action but Kuala is working from the bottom.
Kuala keeping hold of Wallace's head, controlling as best he can.
Wallace is looking to take a break and control but Kuala is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Wallace landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Wallace is trying to control. Kuala wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Wallace lands a nice short elbow.
Kuala is trying to control but can't.
Kuala is trying to get back to full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Wallace drives through and clinches with Kuala against the cage.

Kuala prevents a takedown attempt there.
Wallace is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Kuala is defending well.
Wallace missing with knees to the body.
Wallace is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kuala to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Desmond Wallace. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kuala has hold of one of Wallace's legs. Wallace is fighting the takedown attempt but Kuala gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kuala wants to work for an arm triangle but Wallace is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That was a close round but I would say that Desmond Wallace will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Kuala looking to score a takedown here. Wallace is defending well but Kuala drives through and ends up in Wallace's guard.
Kuala postures up in Wallace's guard and throws a big left but Wallace blocks it.
Kuala controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kuala trying to control the position from guard on top but Wallace is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kuala is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wallace is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wallace has escaped and now he's on top!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kuala working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wallace doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wallace manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kuala wants to stand and escape but Wallace is having none of it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kuala looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wallace is one step ahead there.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Wallace really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kuala misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Wallace throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Wallace shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kuala is trying to defend but Wallace finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Kuala wants to control but Wallace is keeping busy.

Wallace is taking a breather. Kuala says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Kuala is concentrating on defense, preventing Wallace from advancing position.
Wallace is trying to control the action in half guard but Kuala is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kuala has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wallace is working away from the top position though.
Wallace is stalling here. Kuala is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Wallace seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kuala has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Wallace can't do much from the bottom here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kuala is putting a hurting on Wallace here, landing some big shots from side control.

Kuala looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kuala stops Wallace from getting back to his feet.
Kuala thows a huge punch but Wallace dodges it nicely.

Kuala is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Wallace tries to roll over but Kuala keeps him under control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kuala passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Wallace!
Wallace sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Kuala working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Kuala is looking for a kimura but Wallace is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kuala to get the leverage.
Wallace is trying to get back to full guard.

Kuala wants to work for an arm triangle but Wallace is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Kuala is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kuala takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kuala is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wallace doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kuala.
Wallace pushes Kuala off looking to stand but Kuala dives back in and keeps control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wallace is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Kuala jumps into side control!

Jimi Kuala comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kuala has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
