PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Donnie Darko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kung Pow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Donnie Darko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kung Pow!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pow tries to clinch there but Darko circles away.
Darko tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pow paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Pow moves in looking to clinch but Darko pushes him off.
Kung Pow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pow gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Pow is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Pow breaks the clinch.
Pow scores with a head kick.
Pow works over Darko's head and body with a nice combination.
Pow tries to close the distance and clinch up but Darko swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Pow takes the fight into the clinch.
A left hand lands to the body for Pow.

Pow's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pow fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Pow closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Darko avoids the elbow strike from Pow, against the cage.

Pow breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kung Pow is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Darko shoots for a takedown but Pow saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Darko could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pow wants to clinch but Darko slips to the side

and Darko decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pow's guard.

Darko thows a big elbow that misses.
Darko is in close to Pow's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Darko postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pow can do anything to dispel that myth.
Darko postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Pow is looking to stand up but Darko isn't so interested in that idea.
Darko passes Pow's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Darko blocks the strikes from Pow.
Pow really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Darko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Darko working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Darko is working for a submission of some sort.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Darko drops an elbow to the side of Pow's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Darko throwing shots but Pow is blocking nicely.
Pow is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Darko has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Darko is breathing heavily.
Darko landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Darko seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pow does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Pow is trying to control but can't.
Darko looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Darko trying to pass the guard but Pow defending well.
Darko is keen to just control but Pow is a slippery customer.

Pow is trying to get back to full guard.
Darko thows a huge punch but Pow dodges it nicely.

Pow is staying active underneath Darko, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Pow stuns Darko with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Darko takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Darko swats away the attempt to clinch by Pow.
Pow fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pow scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pow connects with a high kick.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Donnie Darko will probably get the nod.
That's time! Darko's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Darko takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Pow tries to clinch there but Darko circles away.

Darko keeps the fight on the outside.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pow is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Darko slips under a jab from Pow.
Pow fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Darko manages to avoid it.

Pow fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Darko, pushing him back against the cage.

Pow breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pow throws a shot to the body.
Pow tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Darko fails with a takedown attempt.
Pow swinging wilding here.
Pow tries to close the distance and clinch but Darko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pow is looking to clinch but Darko is avoiding it.
Pow is looking to clinch but Darko is avoiding it.
Pow scores with a hook to the body. Darko takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Darko keeps the fight on the outside.
Darko tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Pow takes the fight into the clinch.

Pow pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Pow moves into the clinch.
Pow lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Darko trying to stall but Pow improves his position.

Pow manages to break the clinch.
Pow throws a right and a left that Darko avoids nicely.
Pow is breathing heavily.
Pow with a body punch. A glancing blow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Darko avoids the head kick by Pow.
Pow closes the distance but Darko moves to the side

and Darko counters with a takedown into side control.
Darko advances to full mount.

Darko has isolated one of Pow's arms. Pow looking to fight him off but Darko twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
