PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Sams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sean Foster was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Johnny Sams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sean Foster!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Foster shoots in but no luck this time.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Sean Foster has been cut.
Sams wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Foster finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Foster throws a knee to the head but misses.

Sams breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Some wild striking there from Sams.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Sams darts in and clinches Foster up against the cage.

Sams ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sams no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Sams wants to stand but Foster is controlling the position.

Foster stands up and waves to Sams to follow him.

Sams has closed the distance and engaged Foster in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Foster is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Sams jumps guard but Foster stands there with Sams around his waist. Sams gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Foster is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Sams is defending well for now.

Foster shoots in for a takedown but Sams shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sams lands with a shot to the body.

Sams pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Johnny Sams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sams throws a right hand that Foster ducks under and follows up with a left that Foster also avoids with ease.

Sams lands with a nice combination. Foster backs away looking to recover.

Sams gets control of Foster's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sams will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sams is striking off his back. Foster thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Foster is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Foster trying to control the action but Sams is working from the bottom.

Foster is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sams is just riding it out for now. Foster eventually gives up the hold.
Sams wants to get back to his feet.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Sams rushes Foster and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sams tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Foster just stands there and leans against the cage.
Sams tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Foster smiles and moves away.

Sams jumps guard and drags Foster to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Sams is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Foster is working Sams over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Foster advances position into side control!

Foster thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Foster has control of an arm but Sams manages to advance to Foster's back!
Foster tries to roll but Sams sticks to his back.
Johnny Sams overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

I really don't envy Foster right now.

Foster trying to get back to his feet but Sams is in full control for now.

What's going on here? Sams has decided to give up on the ground game despite having his opponent's back!

Sams moves into range and clinches up with Foster.
Foster's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

A lazy body kick from Sams

and Foster counters with a single leg into guard. Sams didn't expect that.

Sams has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Foster has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sams is looking to control Foster's arms but Foster gets an underhook and turns him. Now Sams has his back to the cage.
Sean Foster has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Sams. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Foster throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Johnny Sams is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sams swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Foster changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Foster gets tackled into the cage by Sams. Sams maintains the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnny Sams showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Sams has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
