PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Severn (ranked 2510 p4p, 365 weight class) and Hank Lombard (ranked 1484 p4p, 221 weight class). Lombard has chosen Shinedown - Sound Of Madness as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Severn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 1, fighting out of London, Hank Lombard!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Severn misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lombard.
Lombard throws out a loose jab but Severn uses good head movement to avoid it.
Severn feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Lombards jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Severn lands a high kick!


It looks like Hank Lombard has been cut.
Severn misses with a head kick.
Lombard is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Severn moves out of range of the strikes.
Severn thinks about countering with a head kick.
Severn throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Lombard wants to counter with a clinch but Severn pushes him away.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Lombard crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Severn - the referee stops the clock and Lombard gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Severn. Lombard manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Severn is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Lombard.
Severn throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Lombard sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Lombard looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Severn looks to score with a jab to the body but Lombard is just out of range.
Severn throws a half hearted mid kick.
Lombard checks the leg kick nicely there.
Severn takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Lombard takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Severn lands a slapping body shot.
Severn pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lombard feints the counter takedown.
Severn uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Lombard.
Severn explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Severn thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Lombard if he has to take too many more of those.
Severn throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Lombard looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Severn is looking to wear down Lombard with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Lombard looks to throw the jab but Severn is out of range.
Severn bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Severn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Lombard throws a counter combo.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Severn throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Lombard's head.
Lombard on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Severn. Severn obviously looking to wear him down.
Lombard uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Severn.
Lombard swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Severn throws an off balance right hand

and Lombard counters with a shoot takedown. Severn fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lombard advances to half guard.
Lombard wants to take a breather but Severn is having none of it.
Lombard prevents Severn from standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Severn dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Hank Lombard's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Severn misses with a series of wild punches.
Chris Severn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Severn throws a head kick that Lombard semi-blocks.
Severn moves forwards but Lombard connects with a nice, crisp jab.

And Lombard tries to counter it with a takedown but Severn pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Severn looks for the body kick but Lombard saw that one coming.

and Lombard counters with a right hand that sends Severn tumbling to the canvas! Can Lombard finish him? He dives into Severn's guard looking to do just that!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lombard sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Severn's guard.
Lombard is pressing down on Severn's thigh, looking to free his foot. Severn is holding on for now.
Severn is looking to control Lombard's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Severn avoid being mounted?
Severn tries to roll over but Lombard keeps him under control.
Lombard wants to pass to mount but Severn is defending the position.
Lombard seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Severn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Lombard is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Severn reverses the position - he's now on top in Lombard's guard.

Lombard is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Severn is aware though and is defending well.

Lombard looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lombard can't keep his opponent in guard - Severn advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Severn tries to stand and escape but Lombard is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Severn takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Severn thows a huge punch but Lombard dodges it nicely.
Lombard is staying active underneath Severn, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Severn in particular looking to stall.
Severn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lombard keeps working.

Lombard looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Severn tries to stand but can't do so whilst Lombard controls his leg.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Hank Lombard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Lombard missing with a left hand there. Severn was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Severn looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Lombard misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Severn counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Lombard!
Severn is looking to take a break and control but Lombard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lombard seems a little lost for a moment, as Severn dominates the positioning.

Chris Severn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lombard sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Severn wants to control but Lombard is keeping him busy.
Severn works his foot free and advances to mount.
Severn scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Severn seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lombard does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Still in half guard, Severn seems content to control.
Lombard wants to sweep but Severn has passed to side control!
Severn wants to control but Lombard is keeping him busy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Severn laying and praying for a moment but Lombard takes advantage and regains half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chris Severn showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Severn has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
