0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Devir Geno! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Geno throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bowers was covering up waiting for the punch and Geno finishes the takedown easily into guard. Bowers is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Geno wants to get back to striking at distance but Bowers won't allow it.
Geno wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Bowers breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Geno lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Geno tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bowers manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Geno closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bowers quickly recovers to half guard. Bowers has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Geno is on him like a limpet, forcing Bowers back against the cage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Geno has had enough of the clinch but Bowers keeps him there for the moment. Bowers breaks from the clinch.
Geno manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bowers on his heels. He'll look to pass Bowers's guard now, I'm sure. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's one minute gone in the round. Geno prevents Bowers from getting back to his feet. Geno really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bowers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Geno accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Geno throwing strikes but missing. Geno prevents Bowers from getting back to his feet. Geno stopping the sweep attempt from Bowers. Geno is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Geno wants to get up but he can't break Bowers's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Bowers trying to strike off his back.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Geno misses with a looping left. Bowers seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Geno shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Bowers pushes Geno off and gets back to his feet.
Geno looks winded! Geno tries to bum rush Bowers with a series of wild strikes but Bowers uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bowers rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Geno moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Geno gets tackled into the cage by Bowers. Bowers maintains the clinch. Geno is trying to break the clinch but Bowers has him pressed against the cage. Bowers breaks from the clinch.
Bowers throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Geno's head. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Geno shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Bowers manages to escape and get back to his feet! Geno rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bowers moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Bowers has managed to clinch.

Bowers is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Geno is controlling him. Bowers throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Bowers manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Geno manages to get himself to full guard.
Geno keeping moving, preventing Bowers from controlling successfully. Bowers thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Bowers drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bowers jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Bowers drops back looking for a leg! Geno is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Geno manages to kick Bowers off! Bowers jumps back into Geno's guard.

Geno shoots in and bounces Bowers off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Bowers lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Bowers scoring with punches to the head and body. Bowers trying to control the position from guard on top but Geno is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bowers makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Bowers trying to control but Geno is working from the bottom. Geno is breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bowers advances position into side control! Bowers tries for a kimura but Geno is defending well. Bowers controlling the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bowers has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Geno gets a takedown into half guard. Bowers makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bowers. Bowers has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Geno has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Geno is trying to force a seperation but Bowers has the dominant position.

Bowers is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Geno can do to turn this around? Geno tries to stand but Bowers is controlling from the bottom. Bowers could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Bowers working for a triangle but Geno defends it easily.

Bowers has Geno pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Geno manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Bowers is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Geno gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Bowers manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Geno wants to control from the top but Bowers keeps moving. Bowers wants to stand but Geno is controlling the position. Bowers keeping moving, preventing Geno from controlling successfully. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bowers passes Geno's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Bowers is looking for a kimura here.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Geno can do anything to dispel that myth. Bowers is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Bowers passes to full mount! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bowers stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. A left and a right from Bowers both land. Nice combination. A momentary lapse in concentration from Bowers enables Geno to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bowers manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Bowers throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Bowers has his foot on Geno's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Geno works his way back into a safe position though. Geno wants to get up but he can't break Bowers's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Bowers is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Geno is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Geno has escaped and now he's on top!
And that's the end of the fight! Doug Bowers showed his dominance in that final round. Well Bowers has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
