PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Louis Princip (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elvijs Smos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Princip might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Lord of This World by Black Sabbath. Louis Princip is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Louis Princip!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Elvijs Smos!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smos dodges the punch combination from Princip.
Smos throws a counter combo.
Smos fails with a takedown attempt.
Smos is trying hard to land a takedown here. Princip sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Princip connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Smos momentarily.

Princip lands a really nice looking cross but Smos seems unphased.
Smos shoots in looking for a takedown but Princip manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smos's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Louis Princip has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Elvijs Smos.
Smos tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Smos feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Princip is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Smos stands and steps away. Princip gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Princip leaves Smos with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Smos tries to clinch there but Princip circles away.
Princip lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Louis Princip seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Princip gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Smos.
Smos blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Princip doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Smos breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Smos fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Princip is looking to counter punch.
Smos looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Princip is fending him off so far but Smos persists. Nope, Princip circles away and we're back to standing.
Louis Princip is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Princip counters with a nice uppercut.
Princip moves in looking to clinch but Smos pushes him off.
Princip cracks Smos with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Smos on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nice defenses there by Princip.
Princip lands a nice shot to the body.
Princip fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Smos takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Smos takes a jab right on the kisser.
Princip digs a good body shot into Smos's ribs.
Princip lands a body shot.
Smos takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Princip feints a jab promting Smos to slip. Princip then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Smos slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Princip lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Smos closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smos lands in his opponent's guard.
Princip wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Smos manages to pass to side control.
Princip is breathing heavily.

Smos is controlling the pace.
Princip tries to get to full guard but Smos has control of the leg.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
It looks like Smos might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Smos winds up and cracks Princip with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Princip is defending against the submission attempts here by Smos.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Louis Princip dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Smos throws a sloppy head kick and Princip moves out of range easily.
Princip throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Smos goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Smos takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Smos looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Princip scores with a jab.
Smos shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Smos shoots for a double leg takedown but Princip sprawls well. He's pushed Smos's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smos is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Princip is surviving well by controlling Smos's body position as best he can.

Elvijs Smos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Smos stands up out of the half guard.
Smos on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Princip cracks Smos with a good jab.

Smos dives in and scores a takedown into Princip's guard.
Smos postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Smos is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Smos pushes down on Princip's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Smos is taking a breather. Princip says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Princip looks like he's trying to stand up.

Smos is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Princip is just riding it out for now. Smos eventually gives up the hold.
Smos seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smos is continuing to stall.
Princip is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Smos sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Princip defending well though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smos not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Still in half guard, Smos seems content to control.
