PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Jones (ranked 8860 p4p, 842 weight class) and Florian Summers (ranked 7173 p4p, 767 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Codeine Cowboy - 2 Chainz. Florian Summers told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Daniel Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Florian Summers! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Daniel Franklin and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Summers rushes Jones and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Jones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Summers walks away with a smile on his face. Jones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Summers instigates a clinch. Summers working some nice short punches in the clinch. Jones blocks an uppercut.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Jones. Summers has Jones pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Summers pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jones tumbling to the mat - Summers dives into Jones's guard. Jones is looking for a triangle but Summers pushes his legs off easily.

Jones has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Summers avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Summers wants to get up but he can't break Jones's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Jones stands and throws Summers's legs to the side, diving into side control. Jones laying and praying for a moment but Summers takes advantage and regains half guard. Jones throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Summers to regain full guard. Summers utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Jones throws a strike but Summers rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Jones is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Summers must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Summers pushes Jones off looking to stand but Jones dives back in and keeps control.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Summers has closed the distance and engaged Jones in a clinch.
We've been informed that Summers has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Summers turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Jones regains half guard. Jones is looking for a sweep. Summers is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Jones is working hard here to advance position. Jones actively working from the bottom here. Jones is looking to control Summers's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jones avoid being mounted? Summers wants to get back to his feet.
Summers is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Jones wants to control but Summers is keeping busy and won't allow it. Summers stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Summers pushes Jones up against the cage in a clinch.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him. A battle for position here, against the cage. Summers lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. A head punch on the inside from Summers fails to land. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Jones fails to pull the fight into his guard.

A head punch on the inside from Summers fails to land. Summers throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jones wants to break the clinch but can't.
Summers lands a left hand that snaps the head of Jones backwards. A shot in the inside from Summers. Summers lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Summers lands a body shot. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Florian Summers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

It's hard to tell if that hurt Jones or not. Jones is trying to pull guard but Summers has him pressed against the cage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A short right from Summers. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Summers creates some distance for himself and unleashes a massive uppercut that sends Jones's eyes rolling into the back of his head! Jones drops to his knees and Summers pours it on with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

An out of breath Florian Summers thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career. Daniel Jones was interviewed post fight and said 'I'm disappointed in myself. But it is what it is. He was the better man tonight. I gotta train harder next time. Sink or swim and looks like i sunk.
