Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gennady Mikhasevich! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Cox! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Bruno Lombardi and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mikhasevich scores with a punch to the head. Mikhasevich has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Cox defending well as Mikhasevich loads up on a big left hand. Cox is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Mikhasevich keeps the fight on the outside. Cox looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Cox tries to clinch there but Mikhasevich circles away.
Mikhasevich throws a right hand that Cox ducks under and follows up with a left that Cox also avoids with ease. Mikhasevich circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mikhasevich misses with a two punch combination.
Mikhasevich throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cox. Cox rushes Mikhasevich and presses him up against the cage. Mikhasevich scores with a shot to the side of Cox's head. Cox tries to break the clinch but Mikhasevich is controlling the position. Mikhasevich throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Coxs head. Mikhasevich lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Mikhasevich breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cox misses with a combination
and Mikhasevich connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Donk. Mikhasevich catches Cox right on the button with a cross.
Cox is rocked! Mikhasevich keeps the fight on the outside. Mikhasevich drops Cox with a naaaaasty hook - Cox is in real trouble here! Mikhasevich dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gennady Mikhasevich! A relieved looking Gennady Mikhasevich thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
