PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rick Patton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Tauer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Max Tauer was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Max Tauer!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patton defending well as Tauer loads up on a big left hand.
Patton is looking to counter punch.
A jab from Tauer does it's job there.
Tauer keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Patton.

Patton closes the distance and clinches.
Tauer lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Tauer blocks a body shot from Patton.
Patton blocking some punches.
Tauer blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Tauer breaks the clinch.
Patton dodges the punch combination from Tauer.
Patton swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
A big right from Tauer misses.
Patton was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Patton closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Patton looking to control but instead Tauer has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Tauer is trying to maintain the position but Patton is very close to passing his half guard.
Patton is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Patton throwing shots but Tauer is blocking nicely.
Tauer controlling the position well.
Tauer tries to roll over but Patton keeps him under control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Patton winds up and cracks Tauer with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Patton is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Tauer wants to get back to full guard.
Patton lands strikes from half guard.
Patton takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tauer is staying active underneath Patton, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Tauer tries to roll over but Patton keeps him under control.

Tauer wants to get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tauer can do anything to dispel that myth.
Tauer keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Tauer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Patton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Well, if Patton is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Tauer has hold of Patton's hands but Patton slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Patton stops Tauer from getting back to his feet.
Patton is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Tauer is rocked!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Patton seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Tauer is still in real trouble! Can Patton finish him?
Patton is trying to control. Tauer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Tauer pushes Patton off looking to stand but Patton dives back in and keeps control.
Patton lands a big elbow - Tauer is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Patton!
