PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jordan Sears (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Walter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jordan Sears!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, James Walter!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sears darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Walter is defending against the submission attempts here by Sears.
Walter wants to control but Sears is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sears trying to mount his opponent but Walter defends it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sears perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Sears is working for a kimura but Walter is defending it quite comfortably.
Sears content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sears's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Walter has hold of Sears's hands but Sears slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Walter is trying to control but can't.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Walter is looking to control Sears's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Walter avoid being mounted?

Sears drops an elbow to the side of Walter's head.

Sears is taking a breather. Walter says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Sears prevents Walter from standing back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Walter shoots in looking for a takedown but Sears manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Walter's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Walter is trying to escape back to his feet but Sears uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Sears will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Sears is working Walter over with some ground and pound from side control.
Sears content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Sears decides to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Walter tries to clinch up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walter throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Walter drives through with a takedown into Sears's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Sears has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Walter has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Walter jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sears walks away with a smile on his face. Walter gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Walter misses with a head kick.

Sears closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Walter throws Sears to one side and escapes!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sears feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Sears forces his way into half guard.
Sears is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Walter can do to turn this around?
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sears lands a nice short elbow.

Sears stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Walter to get to his feet.

Walter closes the distance and clinches up with Sears, looking for a takedown. Walter pushes Sears against the cage but Sears circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Walter is breathing heavily.
Walter throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sears scores with a hook to the body. Walter takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Walter instigates a clinch.

Sears turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Sears manages to end up in side control.
Walter is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Sears is staying tight to Walter's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Sears lands some shots froms side control.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Walter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sears. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sears tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sears has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Sears working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Sears stands up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sears rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Walter moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Walter gets a takedown into half guard.
Walter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sears keeps working.
Sears trying to control but Walter postures up.
Walter is looking to take a break and control but Sears is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sears keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Sears fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Walter is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sears's half guard.

Sears kicks off Walter and gets to his feet.
Walter throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Walter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Walter can do anything to dispel that myth.
Sears not doing much here.
Sears has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Walter wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sears is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Walter is trying to get back to full guard.
Well, if Sears is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Sears is stinking the place up with his stalling.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sears closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Walter did well to prevent Sears getting side control.
Well, if Sears is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Walter tries to roll over but Sears keeps him under control.

Walter is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sears lands a nice short elbow.

Sears passes the guard and advances to mount!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sears, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
