Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Palmer Goodman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joseph Bryant! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bryant darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Bryant stalling. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Goodman tries to get to full guard but Bryant has control of the leg. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bryant is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Goodman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Goodman slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Goodman working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Bryant. Bryant throwing strikes from guard but Goodman blocks nicely. Bryant gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Goodman throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Bryant's head. Goodman tries to sprawl but Bryant drives through with a takedown into half guard. Bryant content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bryant sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Goodman defending well though. Bryant escapes and gets back to his feet. Bryant shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Still in half guard, Bryant seems content to control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bryant is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Goodman has managed to free his arm - good work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bryant is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Bryant thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Goodman's head. Bryant stands up and beckons Goodman to join him on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Bryant stuffs the takedown. Bryant shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Goodman manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Goodman looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Bryant not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Bryant stands and throws Goodman's legs to the side, diving into side control. Goodman is trying to improve his position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Bryant throws an elbow but Goodman slips to the side and avoids it well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joseph Bryant dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Bryant has managed to clinch.
Bryant digs a right hand into Goodman's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Goodman's gas tank. Goodman throws a head punch that misses. Bryant stops a takedown attempt from Goodman.
Bryant lands a body punch. Bryant has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Goodman uses from the top position. Goodman wanted to stand there but Bryant had control of the position. Goodman has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Goodman drops back, looking for a kneebar! Bryant looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Bryant looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Bryant! Goodman is looking to regain half guard here but Bryant keeps moving and retains side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bryant in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bryant stands up and we're back to a striking position. Goodman gets tackled into the cage by Bryant. Bryant maintains the clinch. Bryant pulls Goodman into guard.
Goodman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Goodman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Bryant wants to sweep but no luck. Goodman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. That's two minutes gone in the round. Bryant looking for a guillotine here but Goodman defends easily.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Goodman being controlled here momentarily.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Goodman fails with a takedown attempt. Bryant takes the fight into the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Goodman taking a breather. Bryant is trying to force a seperation but Goodman has the dominant position. Bryant working hard to break the clinch. Goodman has a couple of punches blocked by Bryant.
Goodman throws a head punch that misses. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Bryant dodges an elbow strike from Goodman.
Bryant wants the takedown. Goodman is fighting it off but Bryant persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Goodman's guard against the cage. Bryant sitting in guard here, content to control. Bryant throws a big right hand that misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bryant engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Goodman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Goodman is looking for a triangle but Bryant pushes his legs off easily.
Bryant drops back looking for a leg! Goodman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Goodman manages to kick Bryant off! Bryant jumps back into Goodman's guard. Goodman being controlled here, momentarily. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joseph Bryant showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Bryant moves into the clinch successfully.
Bryant pulls guard effortlessly. Goodman wants to stand but Bryant has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Goodman stands up and waves to Bryant to follow him. Goodman shoots for a takedown but Bryant saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Bryant closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bryant lands in his opponent's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bryant is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Goodman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Bryant missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Bryant stands up from guard. Let's bang! Goodman moves out of range as Bryant throws a body kick.
A clash of legs there as Bryant blocks the low kick. Bryant moves into the clinch successfully.
Goodman looking to slow down the pace here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Goodman swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Goodman has Bryant pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Bryant manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Bryant blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Goodman blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Bryant jumps guard.
Bryant pulls Goodman in close to his closed guard and prevents Goodman from doing any damage or advancing position. Goodman trying to control but Bryant is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Bryant holds on and takes a little breather. Bryant is trying to control the position but Goodman postures up. Bryant working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Goodman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Goodman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Goodman postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Bryant wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Goodman checks the leg kick nicely there.
Goodman throws a wild hook but Bryant just manages to duck under it and - ooooh! Goodman gets nailed by a brutal uppercut which crumples him back against the cage! The referee jumps in - Bryant raises his hands in celebration and walks away!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joseph Bryant!
