Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Cook! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Pesci! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Ivan Kurochkin and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pesci pushes Cook up against the cage in a clinch. Pesci lands on the inside with an uppercut. A nice right hand lands inside from Pesci. Cook breaks from the clinch.
Joe Pesci seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Pesci darts in and clinches Cook up against the cage. Cook tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Pesci just stands there and leans against the cage. Cook can't find room to land a body shot as Pesci controls the action.
Pesci blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Pesci tries to work over Cook's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Cook definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Cook is trying to pull guard but Pesci has him pressed against the cage. Cook fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Cook. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pesci misses with a short punch on the inside. Pesci pushes Cook back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Cook breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Cook rushes Pesci and presses him up against the cage. Cook lands with a left to the head. Pesci wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Cook has him pressed against the cage. Cook pulls Pesci into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cook looking for a triangle here. Pesci is fighting it but it looks tight! Cook pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Pesci is tapping out - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Josh Cook! After winning the bout, Josh Cook thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
