Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Greg Whales!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jamal JonesJr!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whales stuns JonesJr with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Whales throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
JonesJr takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Whales tries a head kick but it misses.
Whales misses with a kick to the body.
JonesJr misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Whales is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

JonesJr is tying to control. Whales wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

JonesJr closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

JonesJr landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Whales knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for JonesJr on the ground.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
JonesJr takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
JonesJr tries to move into range but Whales moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

JonesJr drives through and clinches with Whales against the cage.
Whales has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. JonesJr avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
JonesJr landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

JonesJr has picked Whales up - he's going for a ride! JonesJr dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Whales wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

JonesJr is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Whales can't fight it off and eventually JonesJr manages to take the fight to the floor. Whales looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Whales throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

JonesJr thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
JonesJr stops Whales from standing up.
Whales will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

JonesJr stands and steps away. Whales gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Whales misses with a head kick.
JonesJr throws a right and a left that Whales avoids nicely.
Whales swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Whales pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Whales looks for the body kick but JonesJr saw that one coming.

JonesJr closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - JonesJr lands in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JonesJr looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Whales has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
JonesJr wants to sweep here but Whales controlling him for the moment.

Whales lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

JonesJr takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Whales connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Jamal JonesJr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
JonesJr tries a head kick but it misses.
Whales changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
JonesJr takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Whales lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
JonesJr uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Whales.

JonesJr decides to take the fight back to the feet.

JonesJr feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

and JonesJr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Whales's guard.

JonesJr drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and JonesJr jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

JonesJr wants to finish this one by submission but Whales is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from JonesJr.

Whales throwing hammer fists to the chest of JonesJr. What's that going to do exactly?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jamal JonesJr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


JonesJr takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Whales throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent JonesJr stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
JonesJr misses with an uppercut.
JonesJr throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

JonesJr rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Whales moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Whales fakes high and swings low for a body shot but JonesJr manages to avoid it.

JonesJr shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Whales as he jumps to the side.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Whales throws an uppercut from half a mile away. JonesJr sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Whales ducks down and throws a hook to the body but JonesJr moves away.
JonesJr shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Whales pinned against the cage. Whales gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
JonesJr dodges the punch combination from Whales.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Whales drops to a knee looking for a takedown but JonesJr gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Whales wants to break the clinch but can't.
JonesJr blocks an uppercut.
Whales wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

JonesJr has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Whales regains guard immediately.
JonesJr slips nicely into half guard.

JonesJr is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Whales doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time JonesJr.
JonesJr wants to control but Whales is keeping him busy.

I've got JonesJr winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
