Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Justin Carpe (ranked 5175 p4p, 465 weight class) and Altintop Palonesess (ranked 22396 p4p, 707 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Justin Carpe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Altintop Palonesess! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Hirohito Nitta and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Palonesess closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Palonesess is looking for a kimura but Carpe is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Palonesess to get the leverage. Palonesess is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carpe is just riding it out for now. Palonesess eventually gives up the hold. Palonesess tries to pass the half guard into mount. Carpe knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Palonesess is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Carpe doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Palonesess. Palonesess is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Palonesess seems to be working for a kimura but Carpe defends the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Palonesess trying to control from Carpe's half guard. Carpe has other ideas though and has regained full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Palonesess wants to stand and escape but instead Carpe has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Palonesess utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Carpe throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Carpe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Palonesess holds on and takes a little breather. We've been hearing that Carpe has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carpe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Carpe working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Carpe stands up over Palonesess, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Palonesess trying to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Palonesess looking to sweep here. No luck so far. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Palonesess is on top in guard.
Carpe keeping moving, preventing Palonesess from controlling successfully. Carpe is working an open guard so Palonesess takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Palonesess takes a kick to the side of the head.
It looks like Altintop Palonesess has been cut. Palonesess tries to bum rush Carpe with a series of wild strikes but Carpe uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Carpe moves into the clinch. Carpe is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Palonesess can't fight it off and eventually Carpe manages to take the fight to the floor. Palonesess looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Palonesess avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carpe stopping the sweep attempt from Palonesess. Palonesess is trying to keep Carpe in close.
Palonesess manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Carpe manages to get himself to full guard.
Palonesess gets to his feet. Carpe looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Carpe tries to clinch up. Palonesess with the counter takedown but Carpe avoids it easily. Palonesess shoots in for a takedown but Carpe shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Palonesess blocks a head kick by Carpe.
Palonesess tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Carpe shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Palonesess counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Carpe is lucky that one didn't land flush. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Carpe is defended easily by Palonesess.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Palonesess goes for a double leg but Carpe avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Carpe continues to drive forward. Carpe will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Palonesess enables Carpe to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Palonesess manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Carpe avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Palonesess has his foot on Carpe's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carpe works his way back into a safe position though. Carpe postures up in Palonesess's guard and throws a big left but Palonesess blocks it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Justin Carpe will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Altintop Palonesess's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Carpe tries for a takedown but Palonesess sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Horrible takedown attempt by Carpe or perhaps it was just good defense by Palonesess, which made it look bad. Carpe tries to keep at a distance but Palonesess has taken the fight into the clinch. Carpe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Palonesess throws a leg kick which misses Carpe's front leg but catches the back leg as Carpe tries to avoid it. Carpe shoots for a double leg takedown but Palonesess sprawls well. He's pushed Carpe's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Carpe. Palonesess regains full guard. Nicely done. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Carpe lands a couple of digs. Carpe loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Carpe connects with a couple of short punches. Palonesess pulls Carpe in close to prevent any damage. Palonesess looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Carpe with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Palonesess is pulling down on Carpe's head to control his posture. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Carpe working the ground and pound. Palonesess tries to buck Carpe off but Carpe is having none of it. Carpe happy to just control the position for now. Palonesess can't do much from the bottom here. Carpe tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The strikes coming from Carpe are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Palonesess is trying to get back to half guard. Palonesess is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Carpe is controlling him well. Carpe creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Palonesess is looking to reverse the position. Palonesess takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Carpe working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Palonesess can't do much from the bottom here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Carpe tries for a kimura but Palonesess is defending well. Carpe tries to score with some ground and pound. Palonesess controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Palonesess defending against the ground and pound. Palonesess gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Palonesess is looking to improve his position.
Altintop Palonesess has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Justin Carpe is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Palonesess is refusing to be controlled, as Carpe sits in half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Justin Carpe showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Carpe, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
