Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, James Rodriguez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nobunaga Tanaka! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tanaka closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Rodriguez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tanaka on the ground. Tanaka controlling the action here. Rodriguez is staying active underneath Tanaka, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Tanaka thows a huge punch but Rodriguez dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tanaka trying to mount his opponent but Rodriguez defends it. Tanaka is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Tanaka lands a nice short elbow. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tanaka works his way into full mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Tanaka punching from mount but Rodriguez doing a good job of avoiding damage. Tanaka looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Tanaka landing shots from mount. Rodriguez is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Tanaka jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Rodriguez manages to avoid the submission attempt. Rodriguez is trying to buck Tanaka off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tanaka scoring with punches and elbows. Tanaka trying to control the position but Rodriguez is working away. Tanaka prevents Rodriguez from escaping the position. Tanaka is looking to take a break and control but Rodriguez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tanaka looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Tanaka lands a few punches from side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tanaka advances to mount. Rodriguez holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Tanaka tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Rodriguez is in a horrible position here. Tanaka smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Rodriguez is bucking up trying to escape but Tanaka cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
It looks like James Rodriguez has been cut. Tanaka looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Tanaka controlling from the full mount. Rodriguez is trying to stand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tanaka wants to take Rodriguez's back but he can't do it this time. Tanaka controlling the position easily from mount. Tanaka working for a guillotine from mount but Rodriguez is in no mood to give up. This has been an exciting period of action! BOOM! Tanaka connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Rodriguez is rocked! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nobunaga Tanaka dominated that round. The cut man is working on James Rodriguez's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Tanaka forces Rodriguez back against the cage and clinches. Tanaka stalls. Tanaka taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

Rodriguez manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Tanaka is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Tanaka pushing down on Rodriguez's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tanaka working the head and body with strikes. Tanaka is nestled in close to Rodriguez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Oh Rodriguez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Tanaka is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Tanaka is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rodriguez has managed to free his arm - good work. My spies in Tosen's Home for Lost Boys inform me that Tanaka has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Nobunaga Tanaka has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tanaka in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Rodriguez tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Tanaka!
