Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brycen Gionet!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Smith!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith is looking to slow Gionet down with leg kicks.
Smith tries to clinch but Gionet is having none of it.
Gionet shoots in and drives through. Smith sprawls well.
Smith has a takedown stuffed.
Gionet drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Gionet tries for a kimura but Smith is defending well.
Smith is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gionet off and has taken his back!
Smith looking for the choke but no joy.
Gionet turns into Smith and is now in his guard.
Gionet looking to pass the guard.
Gionet works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Smith is in trouble now - Gionet has advanced to mount!
That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Gionet scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Gionet has hold of Smith's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Smith manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Gionet is breathing heavily.
Gionet trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Smith wants to control but Gionet is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gionet is looking to stand but Gionet has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Smith can't escape the position.
Smith bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Gionet keeping full guard, as Smith tries to pass.
Gionet had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Smith is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Gionet Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Smith's back instead.
Gionet doesn't have the hooks in and Smith manages to turn into his guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith pushes down on Gionet's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gionet gets back to full guard.
Smith is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Gionet has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Smith is looking to defend but Gionet has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Smith! Gionet pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Smith taps out and this one is all over!
