Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Star! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kurtis Bedford! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Topper Green and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Star clinches up against the cage. Bedford looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Bedford letting Star take a breather here. Star tries to circle away but Bedford has him pinned against the cage. Star blocks an elbow strike. Star wants to break the clinch but can't.
Bedford gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Star.
Bedford drops down looking for an ankle pick but Star pulls his leg out and moves away.
Bedford takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Star fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Bedford is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Star keeps the fight on the outside. Star looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. Bedford gets tackled into the cage by Star. Star maintains the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bedford keeps control of Star as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Bedford tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Star wants to break free but Bedford has control.
Star has had enough of the clinch but Bedford keeps him there for the moment. Bedford goes for a takedown attempt but Star pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Star throws a half hearted mid kick. As Star backs off Bedford throws a huge counter combo but Star manages to avoid it all. Star fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bedford, pushing him back against the cage. Star manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Star escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Star clinches up with Bedford and pushes him back against the cage. Bedford has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Star is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Nick Star has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kurtis Bedford. Star holding his opponent close, against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Star is trying to pull guard but Bedford turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Star jumps into guard, dragging Bedford to the mat.
Star has his hands on Bedford's head, controlling the position. Star's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Star will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Bedford really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Star. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Bedford in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Star controlling the position. Bedford throws a sloppy strike and Star has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Bedford is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Star!
