Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 6 - 1, fighting out of London, Riaq Rowanda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
39 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Johnson! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rowanda misses with a low kick as Johnson jumps back. Johnson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rowanda swivels and escapes. A decent looking cross lands there for Rowanda. Johnson doesn't succeed with the takedown and Rowanda counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Johnson crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Rowanda - the referee stops the clock and Johnson gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Rowanda. Johnson manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Rowanda lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
It looks like Luke Johnson has been cut. Johnson throws a leg kick that misses. Rowanda connects with a crisp jab. Rowanda lands a nice hook to Johnson's body. Johnson takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Rowanda lands the left hand. This has been an exciting period of action! Rowanda's jab looks to have found its range, popping Johnson under the eye.
Johnson is rocked! A head kick by Rowanda - that's a beauty! Johnson is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Rowanda can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Riaq Rowanda! An out of breath Riaq Rowanda thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
