Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Road! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sam Clinton! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Clinton darts in looking for a takedown but Road gets double underhooks and turns Clinton into the cage. Road throws the kick towards the body but Clinton avoids it. Clinton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Road closes the distance and clinches. Clinton goes for a takedown attempt but Road pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
David Road has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Clinton. Road shoots in for a takedown but Clinton shows good takedown defense. Nice sprawl there from Road as Clinton shoots in. Clinton shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Road pinned against the cage. Road gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Road is looking to counter the offense by Clinton and move into the clinch. Road shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Road was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! You can see the frustration on Clinton's face as Road controls the position. Clinton is trying to get back to half guard. Clinton is still trying to improve position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Road thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Clinton is looking to reverse the position. Clinton is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Clinton is not content to let Road control the position. Road throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Road is trying to control. Clinton wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Clinton has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Road is working away from the top position though. Road with the ground and pound but Clinton uses the opportunity to regain guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Road trying to control the position from guard on top but Clinton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Road stopping the sweep attempt from Clinton. Road has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Road would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Clinton. Road is looking to counter the offense by Clinton and move into the clinch. Clinton looks winded! Clinton fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Clinton with a lazy takedown attempt and Road counters with a one-two to the body. Clinton has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Road. Road fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Clinton with the counter takedown but Road avoids it easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Road fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Clinton to the ground. Road is now in Clinton's guard. Road wants to control from the top but Clinton keeps moving. Road preventing the sweep. Road trying to control but Clinton is working from the bottom. Road controls from within his opponent's guard. Road wanted to stand there but Clinton had control of the position. Road controlling from the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Road looking to pass the guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Clinton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Road is one step ahead there.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Road throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Road clinches up with Clinton and pushes him back against the cage. Road lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Clinton backwards. Road putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Clinton in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Road breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clinton is trying hard to land a takedown here. Road sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Clinton takes one on the button. Road is looking to clinch but Clinton is avoiding it.
Road looks to land a combination. Clinton sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Road pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Clinton shoots in looking for a takedown but Road manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Clinton's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Clinton displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Road. Horrible takedown attempt by Clinton or perhaps it was just good defense by Road, which made it look bad. Road gets in close and instigates a clinch. Clinton is breathing heavily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Road breaks the clinch.
Sam Clinton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clinton looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Road! David Road overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Road tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Clinton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Road gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Road is looking to control Clinton's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Road avoid being mounted? Clinton throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Clinton not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Road is doing well to control the position and prevent Clinton from advancing to side control. Road wants to improve his position but Clinton is controlling well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Road is trying to stand back up but Clinton is controlling him
Road pushes Clinton off and gets back to his feet. Road is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Clinton can do to turn this around? Clinton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Road has Clinton up against the cage in a clinch.

Clinton won't allow Road to sweep him here. Road throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Road lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Clinton working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Road. Road tries to free his leg and advance position but Clinton is retaining full guard. Road showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Road has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Clinton keeping moving, preventing Road from controlling successfully. Road wants to pass the guard but Clinton is keeping the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Road throwing strikes but missing. Clinton wants to sweep but no luck. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Clinton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Road is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Clinton's half guard. Clinton keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Road wants to lay and pray for a moment but Clinton keeps working. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
David Road dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Clinton closes this distance looking for a takedown but Road circles away. A momentary lapse in concentration from Road enables Clinton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Road manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Road managing to control the position. Road working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Clinton. Clinton preventing the sweep. Clinton trying to control the position from guard on top but Road is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Clinton postures up in Road's guard and throws a big left but Road blocks it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Clinton won't allow Road to get back to his feet. Road seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Clinton preventing the sweep.

Clinton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Clinton wants it to stay on the feet. Road drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Road stands up from guard. Let's bang! Road shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Clinton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Road wants to get up but he can't break Clinton's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Road looking to pass the guard. Sam Clinton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Clinton is adopting a defensive guard. Road avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Road trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Clinton tries to land a sweep but no joy. Clinton is trying to control the position but Road postures up. Road throwing strikes but missing.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Road throws a head kick that half lands.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Road lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Clinton on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Road. Road obviously looking to wear him down.
Road instigates a clinch. Road lands a shot to the body. A right hand to the body from Road.
Road works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Road looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Clinton is striking off his back. Road thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard. David Road is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Road perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
And that's the end of the fight! David Road showed his dominance in that final round. Well Road has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
