PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Juan Rizky (ranked 9354 p4p, 408 weight class) and Lee Son Han (ranked 7202 p4p, 336 weight class). The key to victory for Juan Rizky has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Juan Rizky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lee Son Han!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Santiago Holmes and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rizky misses with a wild combination.
No joy there for Rizky, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Son Han throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rizky was covering up waiting for the punch and Son Han finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Son Han is stalling in the full guard.
Rizky wants to stand and escape but Son Han is having none of it.
Rizky trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Son Han slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Son Han won't allow Rizky to sweep him here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Son Han pushes Rizky up against the cage in a clinch.
Rizky takes a shot to the head.
Rizky crunches a lovely knee into Son Han's ribcage.
Rizky has Son Han pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Son Han manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Son Han is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rizky to keep the fight standing.
Rizky is trying to maintain a safe position but Son Han gets an underhook and turns Rizky into the cage.
Rizky tries to work over Son Han's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Rizky scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Son Han shoots in for a double leg but Rizky sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Rizky has closed the distance and engaged Son Han in a clinch.

Rizky manages to pull guard.
Son Han controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Son Han chips away with some ground and pound.
Rizky is looking to stand up but Son Han isn't so interested in that idea.
Rizky wants to sweep but no luck.
Son Han stays in close to Rizky's body and controls the position.

Son Han throws a big elbow that misses.
Son Han would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Son Han is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Rizky is trying to control the position but Son Han postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Son Han rushes Rizky and presses him up against the cage.
A body shot lands from Son Han.
Rizky is struggling to control the position.
Son Han tries to score a body lock takedown but Rizky shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Juan Rizky has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lee Son Han.

and Rizky counters with a nice double leg into side control. Son Han won't be happy with that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Rizky will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Son Han shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rizky pinned against the cage. Rizky gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Rizky counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rizky.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rizky is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rizky accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Son Han is looking for a triangle but Rizky pushes his legs off easily.

Son Han thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Son Han tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rizky defends well and Son Han ends up having to push Rizky into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Rizky thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Son Han if he has to take too many more of those.

Rizky feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Rizky drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rizky jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rizky stands and steps away. Son Han gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Rizky looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Rizky throws a sloppy head kick and Son Han moves out of range easily.
And Son Han tries to counter it with a takedown but Rizky pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Juan Rizky is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Son Han is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Rizky dives into side control.

Rizky is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rizky rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Son Han moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rizky fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Son Han has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Son Han looks for a takedown but Rizky sprawls well.
Rizky tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Son Han manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rizky fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Rizky is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Son Han gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Rizky. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Son Han is working for takedown but Rizky is calmly controlling the position for now.

Rizky shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Son Han wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Rizky manages to pass to side control.
