Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Matias Orava (ranked 377 p4p, 37 weight class) and Luiz Correia Azevedo (ranked 517 p4p, 58 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Matias Orava!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Luiz Correia Azevedo!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Orava throws a jab but it's blocked by Azevedo.
Orava displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Jab, jab by Orava - just one landing.
Azevedo moves out of range of the strikes.
Azevedo with the counter takedown but Orava avoids it easily.
Matias Orava seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Orava, as that shot connected.
Orava throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Azevedo tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Orava throws a shot from downtown. Azevedo moves away and avoids it.
Orava scores with a sloppy right hand. Azevedo should have avoided that one.
Orava stuffs the takedown attempt from Azevedo. Azevedo gets slowly back to his feet.
Orava scores with a jab. Azevedo acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Azevedo shoots in but no luck this time.
A little feinted left hand from Orava on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Orava looks to land a left hand but Azevedo moved out of range nicely.
Azevedo takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Azevedo's coach down at Gizmo's Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Azevedo's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Orava misses with an uppercut. Azevedo saw that one coming.
Orava looks to land a combination but Azevedo avoids it well.
Azevedo keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Orava.
Orava swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Orava pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Azevedo drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Orava defends it well.
Orava just misses with a punch to the body.
Orava thuds a left hand into Azevedo's body.
Orava lunges at Azevedo with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Azevedo's hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Orava wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Azevedo tries for a takedown but Orava circles away easily
and Azevedo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Matias Orava has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luiz Correia Azevedo.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Azevedo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Orava counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Orava digs a good body shot into Azevedo's ribs.
Orava misses with a lunging right hand

and Azevedo counters with a takedown into side control.

Azevedo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Azevedo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Azevedo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Orava knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Orava is looking to reverse the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Azevedo tries to advance to mount but Orava denies him.
Orava knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Azevedo on the ground.

Azevedo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Orava, who protects the arm well.
Orava tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Azevedo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Orava is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Azevedo is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Azevedo is looking to work his way around to Orava's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Azevedo is working for a guillotine from mount but Orava frees his head quite easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Azevedo is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Orava has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Orava can't escape the position.
Orava is just holding on here. Azevedo manages to take his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matias Orava dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Azevedo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Orava misses with a two punch combination.
Orava takes a swing at Azevedo's ribcage but misses.
Azevedo shoots for a takedown but Orava saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Orava throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Orava keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Matias Orava has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luiz Correia Azevedo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Orava throws a combination. Azevedo tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


It looks like Luiz Correia Azevedo has been cut.

Orava lands a left and a right that send Azevedo crashing to the mat, dazed. Orava thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Azevedo is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Azevedo glances at the clock... BAM! Orava nails him with a big right hand! A momentary lapse in concentration sends Azevedo crashing to the mat! The referee steps in and this one is over! Damn, Azevedo is out of it, he thinks the ref is his opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:07 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Matias Orava!
