Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cruz Lopez (ranked 590 p4p, 74 weight class) and Farouk Al Ahwei (ranked 563 p4p, 70 weight class). Al Ahwei has chosen Whirling Madness as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lopez looks to throw a body kick
and Al Ahwei counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Lopez keeping full guard, as Al Ahwei tries to pass.
Al Ahwei slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lopez wants to stand and escape but Al Ahwei is having none of it.

Al Ahwei not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Al Ahwei is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lopez defends it well.

Al Ahwei seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

and Al Ahwei counters with a nice low kick that buckles Lopez's knee momentarily.

Lopez is trying to escape the mount.
Al Ahwei is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Lopez has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Lopez!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Let's hope that Al Ahwei has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Al Ahwei is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Lopez has his hands clasped together but Al Ahwei extends and breaks Lopez's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Al Ahwei.
