Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joey James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Aspen Springfield! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James throws a combination that misses and Springfield counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. James wants to improve his position but Springfield is controlling well.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Springfield blocks the strikes from James.
Springfield wants to pass to mount but James is defending the position. James trying to control but Springfield postures up.
James wants to get back to his feet.
James looking for submissions off his back. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. James trying to control here.
James is trying to stand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Springfield looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Springfield passes the guard and advances to mount! Springfield moves to back control. You can see the frustration on James's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
James trying to control the action but Springfield just sinks the hooks in. Springfield has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, James has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Springfield is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but James has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James prevents Springfield from getting a body triangle. James tries to escape the position.
James looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. James wants to get back to his feet. Springfield looking for the choke from the back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Springfield trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Springfield is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Springfield has his hands clasped together but James extends and breaks Springfield's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by James.
