Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leka Vasara! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chosu Viv! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Viv lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
It looks like Leka Vasara has been cut. Vasara cracks Viv with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Viv fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Vasara sprawls well initially but Viv persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Viv is looking for a kimura but Vasara is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Viv to get the leverage. Viv throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Vasara is looking for a sweep. Viv is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Vasara is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Viv pulls his head out easily. Vasara is trying to maintain the position but Viv is very close to passing his half guard. Vasara tries to get to full guard but Viv has control of the leg. Vasara keeping control of the position. Viv thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Vasara tries to get to full guard but Viv has control of the leg. Viv drops an elbow to the side of Vasara's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Viv is keen to just control but Vasara is a slippery customer. Viv is looking for a kimura but Vasara is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Viv to get the leverage. Vasara wants to get back to full guard. My spies in Hell's Furnace Gym inform me that Viv has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Viv thows a huge punch but Vasara dodges it nicely.
Viv is trying to control the action in half guard but Vasara is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Vasara is pressing down on Viv's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Viv missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Viv preventing the sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Viv postures up.
Viv throws a big right hand that misses. Viv content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Viv with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vasara pulls Viv in close to prevent any damage. Vasara looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Viv drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vasara looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vasara looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vasara!
Vasara working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Vasara wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Viv, who protects the arm well. Vasara is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Viv knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Vasara wants to control but Viv is keeping him busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Viv is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Vasara has just dragged him back down to the mat. The referee asks Vasara politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Vasara prefers to stall for the moment though. Vasara working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Viv tries to improve position but can't. He's looking for a kimura. Viv seems comfortable defending it but Vasara has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Viv is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Viv is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Vasara couldn't care less - he's delighted!
