Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Filiberto Clements! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Simon Merde! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merde's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Merde duly obliges. Some wild striking there from Merde.
Clements tries to counter by clinching up but Merde breaks away and moves out of range. Merde clinches. Merde has picked Clements up - he's going for a ride! Merde dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Merde controlling the action here. Merde thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Clements's head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Clements is trying is best to control the position here. Merde throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Clements is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merde content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Merde is thwarting Clements's attempts to control the position.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Merde looks to land a combination but Clements avoids it well. Merde looks to land a combination. Clements sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
It looks like Filiberto Clements has been cut. Merde has closed the distance and engaged Clements in a clinch.
Clements wants a takedown but no success here.
Merde successfully pulls guard.
Clements missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Clements wants to control from the top but Merde keeps moving. Merde preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Clements trying to control the position from guard on top but Merde is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Merde wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Clements manages to pass to side control. Clements missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Still in half guard, Clements seems content to control. Clements prevents Merde from standing back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Clements is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Merde doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Clements. Merde wants to improve his position but Clements is controlling well.
Merde tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Clements wants to control but Merde is keeping him busy.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Merde throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Clements crashing down! Clements tries to stagger back to his feet but Merde just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Clements asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Simon Merde! Simon Merde tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
