Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dan May (ranked 8330 p4p, 593 weight class) and Mario Pereira (ranked 6736 p4p, 533 weight class). Pereira is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight. Mario Pereira is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mario Pereira!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Eddie Farnsworth and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
May moves out of range of the strikes.
May swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Pereira with a lazy takedown attempt
enabling May to counter with a crisp jab.
Pereira shoots and misses
and May counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Pereira misses with a hook
and May connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A slow jab from Pereira misses its intended target.
It looked like May was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Pereira.
Pereira throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Pereira throws a lazy head kick
and May counters with a left to the body.
Pereira closes this distance looking for a takedown but May circles away.
Dan May has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mario Pereira.
Pereira pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A quick step to the side and May tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mario Pereira seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sloppy strikes from Pereira. Those never looked like landing.
May tries to clinch but Pereira is having none of it.
Pereira is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Pereira fails with the takedown.
Pereira scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Pereira tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Pereira looks to land a combination but May avoids it well.

and May counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

letting May counter with a right hand.
Pereira throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
It looked like May was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Pereira throws a head kick that misses.
A counter left hand to the body from May misses its target.
Pereira pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Pereira throws a sloppy head kick and May moves out of range easily.
May went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Pereira keeps the fight on the outside.
Pereira unleashes a big counter combination but May bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
May takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Pereira throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around May's waist but May gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pereira off to one side.
It looked like May wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

May fails in his attempt to clinch.

and May makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and May counters with a right hand to the body.
Pereira looks winded!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
May uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Pereira.
Pereira fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

enabling May to counter with a crisp jab.

Pereira looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
May wants to get back to his feet.

Pereira is working for a submission of some sort.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pereira seems to be looking for submissions.
May won't allow Pereira to pass to mount.
Pereira passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for May!
May knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pereira on the ground.
Pereira content just to control the position here.

Pereira is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. May is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. May flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Pereira anticipates the leg and manages to get behind May and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Pereira slips an arm under May chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Pereira has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Pereira is squeezing on May like an anaconda would it's prey. May fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mario Pereira!
Our winner, Mario Pereira, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
