Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ruiz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sleep tries to avoid it but Ruiz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sleep to the ground. Sleep escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Sleep's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Ruiz connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Sleep scrambles back to his feet.

Ruiz lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

and Sleep counters with a nice low kick that buckles Ruiz's knee momentarily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sleep is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Ruiz slips nicely into half guard.

Ruiz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sleep swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Victor Ruiz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
go Sleep has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sleep really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ruiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ruiz drops back looking for a leg! Sleep is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sleep manages to kick Ruiz off! Ruiz jumps back into Sleep's guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Victor Ruiz.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ruiz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
