Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yerba Mate Yerba (ranked 24994 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Randall (ranked 25531 p4p, 0 weight class). Randall has chosen Promentory as his entrance music. Dave Randall is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Yerba as Randall shoots in.
A head kick misses from Randall.
Yerba shoots in for a double leg but Randall sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Yerba counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Yerba shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Randall but Randall pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Randall has taken the fight to the clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Randall takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Randall jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Yerba walks away with a smile on his face. Randall gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Yerba tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Randall swivels and escapes.

Yerba closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Yerba wants to take the fight to the mat but Randall manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Randall jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Yerba walks away with a smile on his face. Randall gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Yerba tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Randall swivels and escapes.
Randall misses with a jab, cross combination.
A solid leg kick lands there for Randall.

Randall closes the distance and pushes Yerba back into the cage.

Randall breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Yerba misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Randall raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Yerba shoots in looking for a takedown but Randall manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Yerba's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Yerba uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Randall.
Yerba is looking to counter the offense by Randall and move into the clinch.
Randall shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Randall drives through and clinches with Yerba against the cage.
With the fighters up against the cage, Randall throws an elbow but misses.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Randall wants to sweep but no luck.

Randall uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Randall throws a nice head kick!
Randall comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Yerba shoots for a takedown but Randall saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Yerba is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Dave Randall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Randall throws a head kick that misses.

Yerba fails in his attempt to clinch.
Randall shoots in but no luck this time.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Yerba really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Yerba is trying to pull guard but Randall turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Yerba escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Randall pulls guard successfully.
Yerba knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Randall on the ground.
Yerba won't allow Randall to sweep him here.
Randall pulls Yerba in close to his closed guard and prevents Yerba from doing any damage or advancing position.

Randall wriggles free and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Randall dominated that round.
That's time! Yerba's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Randall tries to score a power double leg takedown but Yerba sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Randall somewhat.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Randall crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Yerba - the referee stops the clock and Randall gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Yerba. Randall manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Yerba stuffs the takedown attempt from Randall. Randall gets slowly back to his feet.
It looked like Yerba was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

You can see the frustration on Randall's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Randall has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Randall manages to work his way to half guard, despite Yerba's best efforts.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Randall has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Yerba is working away from the top position though.
Yerba thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Randall's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yerba throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Yerba is trying to control the action in half guard but Randall is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Randall has his hands clasped together around Yerba's back. He's all about the action.
Yerba wants to lay and pray for a moment but Randall keeps working.

Randall throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Yerba is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Randall.

Yerba has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Randall uses from the top position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Yerba Mate Yerba will probably get the nod.

and Randall takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Yerba wants to clinch up but Randall keeps it at a distance.

Randall tries to pull guard but Yerba forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Yerba wants to get back to striking at distance but Randall won't allow it.
Dave Randall seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Yerba wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Randall has him pressed against the cage.

Randall has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Yerba regains guard immediately.
Randall is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Well Randall has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
