PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Clayton Channings (ranked 4189 p4p, 552 weight class) and Roy Nelson (ranked 4114 p4p, 540 weight class). Nelson has chosen Don't Mean A Thing as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Roy Nelson enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 15 - 1, fighting out of London, Clayton Channings!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 20 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roy Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Channings shoots in looking for a takedown. Nelson tries to sprawl out of it but Channings keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nelson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nelson slaps away a takedown attempt from Channings, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Channings is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Channings fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clayton Channings. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Channings shoots for a double leg takedown but Nelson sprawls well. He's pushed Channings's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Channings swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Nelson.
Channings uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nelson.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Channings shoots in for a takedown but Nelson shows good takedown defense.
Nelson cracks Channings with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Nelson feints a jab promting Channings to slip. Nelson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Channings slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Channings.
Nelson is looking to regain half guard here but Channings keeps moving and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nelson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Channings connects with a decent elbow.
Channings wants to control but Nelson is keeping him busy.
Nelson told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Channings is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Nelson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Nelson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Channings's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Channings! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Nelson has tapped! This one is allllll over!
