PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Parent (ranked 3315 p4p, 346 weight class) and Jose Mera (ranked 5436 p4p, 488 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jose Mera was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bobby Parent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 21 - 1, fighting out of London, Jose Mera!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Taro Takaoka and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mera scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Parent tries to close the distance and clinch but Mera swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mera closes the distance and clinches up with Parent, looking for a takedown. Mera pushes Parent against the cage but Parent circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A punch lands to the side of Mera 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Parent takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Mera postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Parent is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mera, into his guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Parent accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

We've been hearing good reports from Parent's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Parent got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mera has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Parent has managed to get both his arms back between Mera's legs - danger averted.

Mera is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mera goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Parent has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mera but great work by Parent.

Parent looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mera with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Mera has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Mera shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Parent as he jumps to the side.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Parent, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
