Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Asa Sargent (ranked 25656 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Montone (ranked 5663 p4p, 0 weight class). Leo Montone has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Asa Sargent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Leo Montone!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sargent takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Sargent tries to sprawl but Montone drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Montone is looking for a kimura but Sargent is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Montone to get the leverage.
Sargent is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Montone changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sargent looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Montone stands up.
Montone feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Sargent's calf.

Montone shoots in and bounces Sargent off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Montone is stalling in the full guard.
Montone's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Sargent is working an open guard so Montone takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Sargent closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Sargent avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Montone tries to land a front kick but Sargent steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Montone scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Sargent is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Montone has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Sargent tries to bench press Montone off him but Montone keeps the position.
Montone creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Sargent sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Montone has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Montone throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sargent was covering up waiting for the punch and Montone finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Montone gets to his feet. Sargent looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Montone manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sargent on his heels. He'll look to pass Sargent's guard now, I'm sure.

Montone gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Sargent really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Montone feints and as Sargent raises his hands in defense, Montone changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Sargent scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Montone is breathing heavily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Montone moves into range and clinches up with Sargent.
Montone has Sargent pressed against the cage.
Montone is pressed up against the cage. Sargent has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Montone down to the mat. Montone avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Sargent is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Montone throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sargent tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Montone is in Sargent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Sargent will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sargent is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Montone looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Sargent!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Montone decides to stand back up.

Leo Montone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Montone gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Montone is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Sargent presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Montone is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Sargent is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Montone is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sargent pulls his head out easily.
Sargent is taking a breather. Montone says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Montone is not content to let Sargent control the position.
Sargent not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sargent in particular looking to stall.
Sargent wants to control but Montone is keeping him busy.

Montone has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sargent is working away from the top position though.

Well Montone has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
