Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Demetrius Tektas (ranked 1676 p4p, 174 weight class) and Dave Monson (ranked 2260 p4p, 217 weight class). Tektas kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Alison Hell. Dave Monson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dave Monson! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Monson keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Tektas. Tektas takes a shot right to the bread basket. Tektas misses with a two punch combination.
And Monson tries to counter it with a takedown but Tektas pushes his down on his head and steps out. Tektas takes a swing at Monson's ribcage but misses. Tektas throws a nice looking combination but Monson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Tektas tries to sprawl but Monson drives through with a takedown into half guard. Monson trying to control the action but Tektas is working from the bottom. Tektas is trying to control but can't.
Tektas is staying active underneath Monson, who seems content to just control the action from this position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tektas is looking to control Monson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Tektas avoid being mounted? Tektas desperately trying to maintain half guard. Tektas trying to control from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Monson connects with a right hand. Tektas shakes it off. Tektas looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Monson looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Monson tries to work over Tektas's front leg with a kick but Tektas checks it. Tektas fails to land with a series of punches.
Monson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tektas napping and manages to drive through into side control! Tektas wants to control but Monson postures up. Tektas prevents Monson from improving position. Monson landing strikes.

Tektas is looking for a sweep. Monson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Tektas is not content to let Monson control the position. Monson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tektas is controlling Monson's position as best he can from this difficult position. Well, if Monson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Monson wants to control from the top but Tektas keeps moving. Monson distracts Tektas with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Monson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Tektas. Tektas throws an overhand right that lands on Monson's shoulder, as Monson tries to avoid the shot. Monson drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Tektas defends it well. A low kick from Monson misses and Tektas counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Tektas postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Monson keeping moving, preventing Tektas from controlling successfully. Monson has his foot on Tektas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Tektas works his way back into a safe position though. Monson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tektas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Monson has his foot on Tektas's thigh. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Tektas landing punches. Monson tries to hold on but Tektas pushes him away. BOOM! Tektas lands strikes from half guard. Tektas is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Monson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tektas. Tektas is working for a kimura but Monson is defending it quite comfortably.

He's left an arm up in the air though and Tektas has latched onto it... Big trouble! Tektas pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Monson is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Tektas!
