Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thurman Britt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Tyson! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tyson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Britt keeping full guard, as Tyson tries to pass. Britt working for a triangle but Tyson defends it easily.
Tyson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Britt is trying to control the position but Tyson postures up. Tyson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Tyson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Tyson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tyson slips nicely into half guard. Tyson controlling the action here. Britt actively working from the bottom here. Britt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Tyson wants to work for an arm triangle but Britt is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Tyson sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Britt defending well though. Tyson tries to stand and escape but Britt is controlling the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Tyson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Tyson has clasped his hands together around Britt's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Britt explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Tyson takes the fight into the clinch. Tyson lands a shot to the body. Tyson makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tyson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Britt holds on and takes a little breather. Tyson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Tyson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Britt working for a triangle but Tyson defends it easily.
Tyson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Britt will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Tyson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Britt will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Britt is breathing heavily. Tyson forces Britt back against the cage and clinches. Tyson has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Britt clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Tyson is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. Tyson is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Tyson dominated that round. That's time! Britt's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Tyson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Tyson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Tyson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Britt sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Britt parries the strikes from Tyson easily there. Tyson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Britt to escape.
Tyson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tyson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Britt is trying to escape the position but Tyson is controlling the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tyson working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tyson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Tyson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Britt sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Tyson misses with the ground and pound. Britt is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Tyson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Britt knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Tyson misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Tyson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Britt's shoulder. That is not cool. Tyson decides to take the fight back to the feet. Tyson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Britt was covering up waiting for the punch and Tyson finishes the takedown easily into guard. Britt scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Thurman Britt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tyson wants to clinch up but Britt keeps it at a distance. Tyson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Britt to the mat! Britt manages to get full guard. Tyson is stalling in the full guard. Britt has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tyson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tyson is pushing down on Britt's leg trying to pass to half guard. Britt is fighting to maintain full guard but Tyson has managed to sneak the leg through. Tyson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Tyson seems to be working for a kimura but Britt defends the submission attempt. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Britt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Tyson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Tyson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Tyson has Britt pushed against the cage. Tyson pulls guard effortlessly. Tyson tries to land a sweep but no joy. Tyson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Britt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Britt throws a big elbow that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tyson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Britt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Tyson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Britt throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tyson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Tyson looking for a sweep. Not yet Tyson, not yet. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Britt accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Britt won't allow Tyson to sweep him here. Britt postures up in Tyson's guard and throws a big left but Tyson blocks it. Britt throwing strikes from guard but Tyson blocks nicely. Tyson controlling Britt's posture. Tyson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Tyson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Tyson prevents Britt from improving his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tyson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Britt! Britt avoids a series of strikes thrown by Tyson.
Britt is squirming around, avoiding Tyson's attempts to control the action. Britt gets back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tyson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Tyson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Britt doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tyson. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Britt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Tyson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Britt sees it coming and defends easily. Tyson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Tyson missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Tyson stalling. Tyson decides to stand and escape the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Mike Tyson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Tyson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
